Chapter 124 - Exhausting Battle

“I’m okay…” Liu Ye informed while pulling out a Health Potion. “I need a moment to recover. Can the walls hold on?”

The Fire Spirit kept pouring flames at the boulder which began to melt from the excess heat. All the walls glowed red already and Liu Ye felt as if they were in a giant oven.

„We can’t stay here,” Queen Luna replied immediately. “Not only will the walls melt in any second but even the lava underground is moving towards us. We need to evacuate.”

“What if we counter the fire with water?” Liu Ye asked curiously and listened to his instincts. He pulled Queen Luna’s waist closer and gushed out water at the fastest rate possible.

It first wrapped around them before expanding outward. Water vapor exploded in contact with the  burning walls but it quickly burst out through the holes in their build. Liu Ye glanced at Queen Luna as he needed help in controlling the excess water and she understood him without a single word.

A Waterbender could control all phases of water and vapor could be constantly reused. Maybe Liu Ye didn’t master such control yet but Queen Luna certainly did. Not even 10 seconds have passed before they were surrounded by a giant bubble of water that blocked all the flames from the outside.

“I have an idea,” Liu Ye muttered as he gulped down another set of potions. “Fire needs air to exist. We will use water to cut its supply of air and let the Fire Spirit suffocate.”

The physics in Avatar Online were similar to real world so they just had to use their brains. The Fire Spirit didn’t have a physical body and burned using the oxygen in the air. As long as he had enough water, they could extinguish its flame.

The game was thankfully designed in favor of Waterbenders and he could always produce more water as long as he had sufficient Mana.

“We can do that but we will need a lot more water than this,” Queen Luna commented as she glanced at the ground and pulled away in hurry. “We need to move, now!”

All the water Liu Ye has been carrying suddenly went into Queen Luna’s control and she opened an exit for them. They were able to get some distance from the Fire Spirit just before the ground exploded again. If they stalled for a few more seconds, they would be burned into charcoal by lava.

“What was your plan again?” Queen Luna asked while hovering all the water above their heads. She didn’t even break a sweat carrying it which showed a clear disparity in their strength.

“You need to trap the Fire Spirit in a water sphere before freezing it. Make it as thick as you can,” Liu Ye instructed while adding more water supply. “I will keep adding more water for you and we can lock the Fire Spirit until it dies.”

“That won’t work though since the Fire Spirit draws its energy from its surroundings,” Queen Luna pointed out. “It will just counter us with Lava and render your plan useless. We need to cut its connection with the ground and attack while it’s weaker. Right now it’s growing stronger with each second.”

Liu Ye raised his eyebrows at that fact and only then did he notice the Fire Spirit changes. Not only did it grow in size but it even returned to full HP. Liu Ye wanted to wait until he recovered as well yet it seemed they had to act right away.

“Don’t worry about it,” Liu Ye commented as he began to gather water for himself. “Just focus on locking the Fire Spirit in place. I will handle its contact with the ground.”

The Fire Spirit could only approach them slowly as the earth cracked open underneath it which gave them some time to prepare. Liu Ye let his health heal up to 200 HP before they finally launched an attack.

They nodded at each other as a signal and water shot out as if it had the mind on its own. Liu Ye aimed at the Lava Pit while Queen Luna attacked straight at the Fire Spirit’s body.

For a second Liu Ye thought she misunderstood his plan but the massive Water Bullet she shot suddenly split apart into tens of streams that wrapped around the Fire Spirit. They momentarily locked it in a water cage before turning into a giant Water Sphere that froze right after.

Screee!

The Fire Spirit screeched from within while exploding with lava to melt the Ice Sphere but Liu Ye was there to counter it. His water jets met with the lava until Queen Luna was able to pull the Ice Sphere above the ground and cut its contact with its surroundings.

“It’s fighting back! Help me!” Queen Luna called out alarmed as sweat appeared on her forehead. “The Fire Spirit is melting through the ice and I can’t keep up freezing it.”

Liu Ye began adding more water to the Ice Sphere and quickly understood why she struggled. He expected the Fire Spirit to suffer immediately but it wasn’t as dumb as he thought it will be. It used its Mana as fuel for the flame and began burning multiple spots as if trying to drill a hole through.

“Just hold on a little bit longer!” Liu Ye cheered as he watched the Fire Spirit empty its Mana and finally receive serious damage.

Every second of suffocation cost it 100 HP and it only increased further the more it suffered. It screeched through the ice and eventually stopped struggling as if accepting its fate.

“It’s dead…” Liu Ye informed as he received a notification and Queen Luna didn’t hesitate to drop the Ice Sphere. It crashed on the ground and she fell into Liu Ye’s arms with no strength left.

“I’m actually tired…” Queen Luna admitted and squeezed his neck with affection. “Let me rest for a moment…”

Liu Ye couldn’t help but feel guilty for being unable to assist her enough. His contribution consisted of providing water for her to do most of the work. If she asked to rest on him, that was the least he could do for her.

“You did a good job,” Liu Ye praised while patting her on the head and withdrawing a Mana potion. “You should drink this. It won’t help much but it will help you recover even just a bit.”

Queen Luna pulled away ever so slightly to see what he got for her and opened her mouth to be fed. He could only sigh and place the Mana Potion in her mouth so she could drink it.

To his surprise, just as she swallowed the potion, her stats that were hidden this whole time finally appeared to him. Liu Ye only glanced at them for his eyes to widen in shock.
