Chapter 69 – Cat Dad’s Lurking Enemies?
“What was that?”
Xiaomao had a chill running down his spine. Something ominous and sinister had just glanced at him, and its presence was terrifying.
Munya (That was Nian.)
“Nian?”
He had heard this name before somewhere. He closed his eyes and tried to remember.
1,000 INT and 500 bonus buff INT began to show their effect. Xiaomao recalled the events when Nymph mentioned Nian.
That time, Xiaomao offered to trade corrupted spirit stones for spirit fruits, and Nymph blurted out a piece of information.
<What a coincidence! We’re looking for those evil spirit stones to cleanse them. With these, we can create a counter curse array to repel the Curse of Nian!>
“Curse of Nian? Is he the one behind the curses?”
Mu-Nyang’s round eyes stared at Xiaomao as if he was surprised. The corner of his mouth curved up into a faint smile.
Munya (Nian is your enemy, and his minions will kill you on sight!)
“I don’t even know why it wants to kill me! What did I do?”
Munya! (He hates you.).
“But this makes no sense! What did I do to offend that thing?!”
Xiaomao was confused. Behind every murder, the culprits usually had a motive. However, even after having 1,500 INT, he couldn’t figure out why Pangu and his men wanted him dead.
Because of what he did in the game?
Because of his parents?
Or because of the regression?
The more Xiaomao thought, the more he was confused.
Munya (For now, the crisis is gone. Let’s go home. I’m hungry.)
“… Seriously, Mu-Nyang. How did you know that I would be attacked?”
Munya! (Feed me a premium salmon, and I’ll tell you!)
“Forget it.”
Xiaomao regretted asking Mu-Nyang. This cat never gave him useful information, yet he was acting suspiciously. Mu-Nyang seemed to know something, but he clarified himself.
“What are you hiding from me, buddy? I thought we were friends.”
Munya (Because we’re friends, I can’t let you know my secrets. The karma will kill you.)
“What is karma, then?”
Munya (A curse and a shackle. Well, I talked too much.)
Mu-Nyang yawned and slept inside Xiaomao’s jacket. He stopped talking even though everything around them was in chaos.
Xiaomao slowly pushed pieces of debris off him and got back on his feet. He looked around to see the carnage.
A few cars were on fire. Several people on the road were injured. Fortunately, people from the side road rushed to help the victims, carrying them out of the wrecked cars.
Xiaomao stared at the unreal aftermath in a daze. It was more gruesome and harsher than what he had seen in Hollywood movies or YouTube clips.
“HELP!”
The voice of the male club members awoke Xiaomao from his trance. He turned toward the injured athletes.
The condition of the club members was not great. Five men were unconscious. Two of them were buried under a bent chair and metal pipes, and the four of them were bleeding because of the shattered glasses.
“Oh, boy, munya.”
Xiaomao rushed to the club members. He slowly pushed heavy pieces of metal and bent metal roof to free the buried men first. He also cleared a room in the bus to make a path for everyone to leave the crushed vehicle.
Nobody noticed Xiaomao’s abnormal superhuman strength. Even the victims thought that Xiaomao got help from the others.
Soon, the ambulances arrived, and paramedics rushed in to help.
.
Because of the accident, the marathon schedule was canceled. Ambulances carried the injured students and other victims to hospitals while Xiaomao and other survivors were brought to a police station.
Xiaomao got to meet the local police officer, who used to interrogate him after Liu Bei’s incident. When he saw Xiaomao’s face again, the officer clicked his tongue.
In an office, the cop finished asking Xiaomao questions, but he kept staring at the cat dad’s face.
“Somehow, my gut tells me that you were the cause of this mess.”
He wasn’t wrong, but he wasn’t right either. Xiaomao laughed.
“That’s impossible, munya! That billboard suddenly fell on my bus. How in the blue world could I destroy a billboard when I was chilling in a bus, munya?”
“True. But I can tell that you’ll be back here again.”
“No way. Why should I come back here, munya?”
“By statistics, ex-criminals usually likely recommit the same crime again after they were released. Who knows? You might come back here in the future.”
The officer snickered and let Xiaomao go. He also glanced at the bicolor cat, who was dozing in Xiaomao’s school jacket.
“You have a good cat. What’s his name?”
“Mihaly Dumitru Margareta Corneliu Leopold Blanca Karol Aeon Ignatius Raphael Maria Niketas A. Shilage, munya.”
“What the hell is wrong with you?!”
“But you asked for his name, munya!”
“Argh, forget it. Get outta here.”
“Okay, munya!”
Xiaomao snickered and waltzed out of the police station.
When Xiaomao left the police station, he found himself alone. Wei Zhi, Wei Huang, and the club members that were unaffected by the accident already rushed to hospitals where all students had been admitted.
‘Should I run home?’
He looked at the clock on his phone. It was already 10.35 AM.
The race had already started. It was too late to join the marathon event for the prize money.
Xiaomao sighed. He called a taxi to go home.
While Xiaomao was in a taxi, he checked the game website to see the game’s auction house.
But before Xiaomao could see the current bid war, someone called him. The phone number belonged to Liu Bei.
.
After Xiaomao had left, the phone in the police office rang. The officer that had interrogated Xiaomao picked it up.
“BJ Station, can I help you?”
The hoarse voice of a mentally exhausted middle-aged man on the phone replied, “Hello, officer. I’m searching for a certain individual. I think he was one of this morning billboard victims.”
“Could I have your name, sir?”
“Pan Xian.”
“And who are you looking for, sir?”
“Miao Xiaomao.”
“What kind of relationship do you have with the victim, sir?”
“I’m his parent’s boss.”
The officer paused. He furrowed his brows as he glanced at the desktop computer monitor in front of him. Currently, the conversation on the phone was recorded as it was the local’s automatic system that was installed in every police station.
The officer ensured that the conversation was recorded. Then, he continued to talk.
“Could I have Miao Xiaomao’s parents on the phone, sir?”
“That’s impossible. They aren’t with me at the moment.”
“Sir, we cannot disclose a victim’s private information to non-relatives.”
“How about 10 million RMB?”
“…”
The officer took a deep breath. He pressed a few buttons on his keyboard and stopped the voice recording. He also erased the file from his computer.
