Contract Marriage: Emperor CEO's Secretary Wife Novel

Chapter 43 - Explained

Chapter 43 – Explained

“So you ARE in a relationship.” Yu Shi Huang’s words sounded like a fact, rather than just stating it. Hearing her mom, Xiu Mei paused before the words completely registered in her mind.

“I’m not!” She retorted within 0.5 seconds.

She was perfectly single. Alone. Self-partnered. Not dating anyone. Period.

How did her mom come up with that idea?

“Right?” Her mom’s head titled a little like she was thinking about something.

“I’m telling the truth!”

“I didn’t say you were lying.”

“And you didn’t say you were believing me either!” Xiu Mei argued. She quickly took a deep breath after realizing that she was too overwhelmed by her feelings that she was already standing from her seat with both her hands on the table. She was hovering halfway through the table as she faced her mom.

“Okay, listen to me.”

She took a deep breath before continuing, “Mr.Lu and I are neither dating nor engaged at all. We’re not involved in any romantic relationship. AT. ALL.”

Xiu Mei explained, trying to clear up the misunderstanding of her mom. She looked so desperate while trying to explain that it made her seem more guilty instead.

“Right.”

“Mom!”

Xiu Mei watched her mom stretch her hand out as she received a magazine from one of the maids. Her jaw almost dropped in disbelief after seeing the front cover.

It was a wedding magazine!!

Why the hell is she looking through that?!!?

She had to stop herself from grabbing that magazine off her mom’s hands, desperately trying to calm herself down. Knowing her mom, the level of difficulty in trying to make her understand believe or understanding something is quite high.

Her mom just basically doesn’t follow common sense. If she weren’t famous as a Yu family daughter, people would’ve doubted that she came from a high upbringing. The Yu family was really made of oddballs whose personality doesn’t entertain logic or common sense. They are full of eccentric people that excel best in their expertise.

Truly, a weird family they are.

“Mom, I am not getting married nor in any relationship.” She continued convincing her mom.

Yu Shi Huang just made a sound of agreement as she continued flipping the pages of the Wedding Magazine she was reading. She would often hum in delights from time to time as she examined the wedding dresses in the pages.

In the end, Xiu Mei just completely gave up. She’s just really wasting her saliva and energy in explaining it to her mom who would never listen to her at all.

“You don’t have to explain anymore.” Yu Shi Huang opened her mouth. She raised her eyes from the magazine and looked at her daughter who was now obediently sipping her tea acting like she doesn’t care about anything anymore.

Hearing her mom’s words, it piqued Xiu Mei’s attention.

“Lu Chen already explained everything a few minutes ago.”

Her hand that was lightly pushing the cup to her mouth paused. Xiu Mei’s eyes narrowed.

Shit.

In her mind, a string of curses was already forming as she panicked. Xiu Mei couldn’t deny that there is a really small possibility that Lu Chen would say something to her mom that’s going to really anger her and put her in a disadvantageous position.

If Lu Chen says that they are really engaged, then it’s all over.

Her mom would never really let go of it!

In her mind, Xiu Mei prayed. Calling out to all the gods and goddesses she knew, she prayed that Lu Chen explained everything clearly. With no lies mixed in or trying to grab this opportunity to tie her down to him.

“He explained that the two of you aren’t really engaged or in any relationship.” Her mom said.

Xiu Mei released the breath that she was holding back. Hearing those words come out of her mom’s mouth, she felt so relieved.

Her expression actually almost slipped, as she tried to stop herself from smiling too much. If she shows such a big reaction in her mom’s statement, she would get even more suspicious as to why she had reacted that way.

All her worries completely disappeared finally knowing that Lu Chen explained the truth to her mom.

Even though she originally understood Lu Chen’s character, she was still doubtful. Even though the emperor CEO is logical and trustable most of the time, he was still a businessman. And businessmen are an opportunist.

They would grab every opportunity available and use it as a sharp sword, efficiently and effectively defeating their competition.

She thought that the Emperor CEO would take this opportunity to tie her down to him. After all, she had declined his proposal for more than twice, and she was sure that turning him down took a blow in his ego. Who would want to be turned down if you’re proposing marriage, right?

And now, she could finally remove all those doubts in her mind.

She actually felt thankful for Lu Chen. For sticking to his character and being honest.

She even thought that she should forget all the grudges she had for him a while ago and just call it quits. He helped her sort out her problem, so she should just let go of all the frustrations she had with their previous conversation.

“Didn’t I tell you we weren’t really?” Xiu Mei exclaimed.

Her mom just chuckled lightly, seeing her reaction. She saw her mom’s lips turn into a smirk as she put down the magazine on the table. She looked at Xiu Mei like she was seeing the most foolish person on earth.

And yes, what a fool she really was.

“W-what?”

“And you know what other things he also said?”

Nervousness crept up in her heart. All her senses were screaming that she shouldn’t be hearing what her mom is going to say next or else, she will regret it forever. But her stubbornness won over as she stuck around to listen to her mom’s next words.

“He said he’s planning to visit here to officially ask for permission to court you.”

BLAG!

Ah, that was the sound of her teacup hitting the grass.
