The next few days, Zou Yue was busy preparing for the arrival goods. The warehouse he had rented was just a few minutes away from houses new house but for safety reason he usually dressed as a woman to check on it.
The fewer people who knew of his face, the lesser the risk of his goods being exposed to others.
He opened the warehouse. The spices he had brought were neatly stacked in the corner. He started to count and check on his list if he had missed any. As of now he had all kinds of spices in at least a few kilograms. It will last for a long time.
But even if it does not last long, he had prepared seedling and seeds to help with fresh produce. The area around his pond was not that large but if the seeds were utilised properly he can get a seasonal cultivation of spices and other vegetables.
To gain more knowledge of these crops, He consulted a local farmer who raises them.. As per his suggestion green like spinach lettuce and others can he raise in smaller pots.
But root vegetables like carrot and radish need to be raised on land.
Zou Yue brought a lot of seeds from him to last a long time. He stored it on a small shelf in the corner of his warehouse.
The rest of the space was left for the upcoming stock.
He moved the small mint plan to other side and sighed loudly. “That’s it.” He glanced at the almost empty warehouse. “This place will be filled up in ten days and little by little I have to move it back home.”
He closed the door after him and wore his mask.
The neighbouring house was at least a few yards away. They sometimes curiously looked at him whenever he came by.
Today they came out of their house and greeted him.
Zou Yue bowed to them.
“I heard this is your business warehouse. It’s good that young girls are doing business now,” the old lady praised him. “Why don’t you come in? I was making some soup dumplings,”
“Oh no it’s okay… I am feeling under the weather….” but his stomach decided to deceive him by growling loudly right at that moment.
“Eh come on kid. I’ll make sure to put a lot of pepper to solve that sore throat of yours. Oh call be Buni grandma,” she gestured for him inside.
Zou Yue obediently followed after her. Even in her house, he did not remove his mask. Instead, he glanced around the small house.
“It’s a moderate house. My grandson brought it for me. Lately he travels a lot, so he prefers to live alone. That kid….” she tsked loudly whist spooning some hot dumplings into his bowl. Her hands were slightly trembling as she was doing so.
Zou Yue silently waited for the hood. “Let me help grandma,” he took the heavy bowl from her hand and swiftly spooned some dumplings for her as well.
“Come sit.” she pulled him down on an old couch. “Tell me, are you married?”
Zou Yue blinked. “eh..I—I….”
“You see, my grandson is still unmarried. He was a military higher official. He was deployed in Sudan for a very long time. Now he is on a break….”
The old lady kept praising her grandson. Zou Yue silently listened.
“Do you have someone you like? Do you want to meet my grandson?” she enthusiastically held his hands.
“Someone I like?”
A familiar face came into mind. His deep dark eyes and his well kept hair.
That melodiously deep voice…..
“I don’t like!!!” Zou Yue shouted all of a sudden. He swiftly calmed himself down. “Ahem, I don’t have anyone I like. But grandma, I have no wish to meet anyone as if now.”
“oh…” the old lady looked sad for a second but she bubbled up quickly. “Eat well, look how thin you are. You city girls have to be strong,” she kept chiding him.
Zou Yue smiled and talked about random stuff. The old lady was really knowledgeable. She even let him know everything about the military barracks behind her house.
Surprisingly so this old lady even knew where the arsenal was. she shared it with him openly.
“Wow. Grandma, shouldn’t it be a secret?”
“It should,” a slightly gruff voice whispered from the door. Bohai walked in with a deep frown. “Grandma, you can’t just go telling stranger about our army arsenal. That won’t do,”
“Yeah, it’s okay. Does this frail young girl look like a thief to you?” she got up and gently patted his back. “Come on, meet this young lady. Oh, what was your name, by the way?”
“You told her all that without even asking for a name?! Grandma!!!”
Zou Yue swiftly stood up. “Sorry I’ll come by later,” he literally ran out.
Bohai glanced in his direction weirdly. “Where have I heard that voice before?”
His mind was coming to a vague conclusion, but suddenly a sharp pain from his arms stopped him.
“Grandma!!” his grandma was carrying cane around.
“I took so much effort to find you a girl, yet you chase them away like flies!” she kept chasing him around.
Bohai laughing dodged all of her blows.
Zou Yue, on the other hand, left for his house with a lot of thought occupying his mind. ‘So the arsenal is in there….’ he swiftly took out a tissue paper and drew the map of the bunker he saw in her house.
‘In worst-case scenario if the military bunker is overrun by zombies or being abandoned I can use this.’
In his last life the military did last but after the ability users came about their authority and power was gradually reduced. Until fan Xui took charge of all of the military officials and the rations.
The G city settlement became fair and easy for humans to life in.
In this life he was not sure how it was going too processed. Because there have been a lot of changes. Especially his parents. They survived the initial stages of zombie apocalypse.
He clenched the paper tightly. ‘They have to survive!!!’
He glanced out the window at the small farms that passed by. He placed his head on the window and slowly closed his eyes.
A small jerk woke him up.
“sorry.” the driver apologetically whispered, glancing back.
“It’s okay…” Zou Yue adjusted his coat well. He was nearing his house, so he swiftly pulled his hair off and wore his mask as well.
“Thank you for the ride..” he whispered and paid him.
The whole ride back made him tired as heck. He cranked his neck loudly. ‘Gosh, I wish I had space ability. I could have stored my stock with me all the time.’
Space ability is super rare. In the initial stages of apocalypse, the ones with space abilities did not even know of this miraculous power. They were always assumed to be powerless and thus ignored. But a few years later the settlement found out about it and started recruiting them.
But by then almost all the space abilities went extinct.
Ten years into the apocalypse only three survived and their identity was kept a well-kept secret.
