“Teardown some sections nearby? Why would we do something like this?” Hoya curiously asked Zhang Qin Feng why he mentioned something like this.
But after saying what he had in mind, Hoya immediately explained to cover Zhang Qin Feng’s embarrassment. It was not like he was doing it on purpose.
“The shelter’s design was made to allow us to expand or retract when it was necessary. By the way, this feature was actually a part of the program designed by the first generation of residents living here.” Hoya quickly added to avoid making things difficult for Zhang Qin Feng.
“Sounds pretty amazing. If a feature like this can be fitted in our buildings, transports, and vessels, won’t it add up to our convenience?” Zhang Qin Feng said. The feature Hoya mentioned sounded similar to the facility deployment feature included in the Vermilion Empress.
But after he said what was in his mind, Hoya quickly interrupted before his words gave more misunderstanding to Zhang Qin Feng.
“It can be made possible as long we were given time to research how to apply that on what you just mentioned.” this time, he was much smoother in his reply. Instead of telling Zhang Qin Feng that it would be difficult to do, he used a roundabout way to inform him.
“If that the case, how big can this facility be expanded? Twice the size?” Zhang Qin Feng continued. After he felt a hint of evasiveness in Hoya’s reply, he knew that it was quite a sensitive topic for them to talk about in the open.
But that didn’t keep him away from showing interest in that feature.
“As long we have enough power to keep the facilities running, the entire shelter can be expanded eightfold from what we are right now,” Hoya replied.
There’s a hint of modest in his answer as if eightfold was not a remarkable feature for him to talk about. But instead, his reply made Zhang Qin Feng almost choke on his own saliva.
“Eight? Hoya… I might be clueless, but don’t jest with me. Do you mean just on this Research Facility? How much more can this Research Facility be expanded?” Zhang Qin Feng used his elbow to give Hoya a nudge.
He had a feeling that this guy was not taking him seriously from his reply.
‘Weird… How can the Boss think I am joking? Do I look like I’m making fun of him?’ Hoya was puzzled by Zhang Qin Feng’s reaction as he tried to study his facial expression before continuing talking.
“I’m serious, Boss. Because our shelter is just a prototype to see how well it can perform, eightfold of our size is the best we can do. From the original blueprint we have, the plan was to make it sixteenfold from our original size.”
“It was unfortunate that the fund for this project barely met the minimum target. That’s why a few other facilities were not included, such as shipyard, heavy factory, and so on…” Hoya added.
“Also, two expansion blocks are in use right now. As long as we increase two more generators per block, we can still expand this facility six times.”
“In total, each facility we had here was about two acres in size. Only the residential unit and generator room cannot be modified. They took the total space of four acres from surface to underground.”
Hoya’s answer caught Zhang Qin Feng by surprise as he remembered he had made a foolish decision before this.
“Hoya, does all the surrounding islands around us were actually part of this shelter?” Zhang Qin Feng asked. He remembered that he ordered some men to monitor their surroundings and the nearby lands.
“Yes, Boss. All the islands around the shelter were a part of us until we had a problem with the power supply. Since the generator could hardly support all the facilities before your arrival, we could only abandon those structures and focus on residential, food, and Cloning Facility.” Hoya made sure he explained everything in detail.
“Ah… I see…” there’s a hint of disappointment shown on his face as Zhang Qin Feng felt he was toyed with. He had no idea that all the anticipation he had was actually part of the Shelter No: 213’s disguise.
If he had asked Hoya about this much earlier, he would have allocated all the manpower somewhere else.
And while they were talking about this feature, Lucian had made his way over. He joined Zhang Qin Feng, Hoya, and Valerian in their conversation but didn’t comment so far. Zhang Qin Feng could guess that this researcher’s expertise is more on biology from how blank he looked.
Or else, he wouldn’t be as quiet as this while Hoya and Zhang Qin Feng talked about the engineering features.
“If the Boss has some requirement on the facility module we might possess, please feel free to ask,” Hoya added. He speaks like he could already guess what Zhang Qin Feng had in mind.
“Then, I won’t be reserved when the time comes. Let’s continue with this conversation after I’m done listening to what Lucian had to say,” said Zhang Qin Feng while shifting his attention to Lucian.
“So, Lucian. What kind of surprises do I have from you?” Zhang Qin Feng asked with a smile plastered on his face. There was a hint of expectation that could be seen on his face.
“Of course, Sir. I’m sure you’ll be delighted with what I had in our report this time. But before I start, can I ask if Ms. Valerian had mentioned anything about the new breed of leeches we developed in our facility?” Lucian asked. His question indirectly hinted that he’s not entirely oblivious about the secret relationship between her and Zhang Qin Feng.
“If it’s about the Tyrant Leeches, then yes, I was briefed by her yesterday during our meeting. And from the size of the Research Facility today, I am satisfied with the progress and precautionary steps you’ve taken.” Zhang Qin Feng nodded in his reply.
“Now, what do you have in hand to impress me?” Zhang Qin Feng smiled at Lucian at the end of his sentence.
