One by one, the soldiers under Zhang Tianci’s command left a signal on the top of the building they were at to deliver a “completed” sign to their leader. This was their meant of communication while the Luna Device was out of service.
It was also the easiest method to recognize if this place was safe or not, as the signal they’re leaving on the roof is the flag of Wind Base Group.
In fact, this flag communication method was not created by Zhang Qin Feng or any of the soldiers but Liam. It was him who gave that idea out, although his suggestion was made using the uniform.
There were two flags used in the Wind Base Group.
One was a flag with a blue background and the word “Wind” inside a circle. As for the second design, it was a red flag with the base’s logo.
Whenever a blue flag is used, the building or location is a temporary or permanent base. The red flag was for indicating if the location or base is safe to move around.
This time, they use the red flag to leave a hint around here as a notice to all remaining Wind Base Group members. With a fleet of five ships going missing around here, it means they had no less than 250 people stranded here.
To the zombies, 250 headcount was nothing but a mere number of hundreds, but it was different to Zhang Qin Feng. To him, every single person in his Wind Base Group is irreplaceable. Unless he had no choice, Zhang Qin Feng would always choose the option for everyone’s survival.
It took them about half an hour to tag all the buildings around them. And to their surprise, there are lesser than a hundred zombies and two Tyrants here.
The vanguard effortlessly took out all the zombies. Still, Zhang Tianci’s performance was peerless as he took down both Tyrants with a record timer of fewer than ten seconds.
In the meantime, it was a little difficult for Zhang Qin Feng’s side.
Unsure if it was because of the party member’s inexperience or they were just unlucky, the team had met with a powerful obstruction led by multiple screamers. Although they were lucky to not meet with any Tyrant on their way, a screamer is still turned to be a problem.
Zhang Qin Feng also realized that while he had a good response and sturdy physique, his experience was not on par with his men. Without Stein supporting him, he was just as good as an assistant team leader at best.
While he managed to keep the casualties down to zero, the number of ammunition and expendable resources he used was more than double compared to having Stein supporting him. And with the Dimensional Storage no longer usable under this electronic interference, all the expenditure will bite him later.
But he had no other choice.
Taking close to an hour and a half to reach the settlement Zhang Tianci stationed for temporary, the two groups finally joined together at once and shared whatever intel they found.
They were lucky that the vanguard team had more supply than they thought. Although most of those were things like ammunition and Supplement Drink, it was better than not having anything at all.
After sharing with one another, Zhang Qin Feng tried to reaccess the Dimensional Storage, but it was a pointless effort. Not even a tear on the spatial could be made.
‘Damn! How long can we last if this continues? I shouldn’t be too confident before this. Look’s like I’ll have to repent and make sure I don’t repeat this in the future.’ Zhang Qin Feng said to himself while looking further inland using the sniper rifle’s scope.
A hint of battle can be seen at where he was looking, but weirdly, there’s no hint of blood or dead body around there. Not even a single zombie corpse can be seen in a few hundred meters distance.
And to his surprise, there’s not even a single flag posted in all the other settlements nearby. With so many days getting out of touch, such a thing was literally impossible to happen.
Even if his men were in a safe zone, they’d still bring the blue flag up without fail. To his army, that’s a necessary procedure they had to follow.
“Are you able to guess what occurs over here?” Zhang Qin Feng asked his clone.
“I have no idea. But if I’m going to guess, the possibility of the vanguard team accidentally activating some hidden function on the continent is more likely. From the look of the golden dome, it should be just a pure defensive barrier without offensive ability.”
“Or else, we would have a problem coming through unscathed. For us to travel past the protective barrier means individuals were not prevented from accessing this place.”
“If I’m going guess, there must be a coup-de-tat happening here. And we’re ended up here at the wrong time.” Zhang Tianci’s opinion was a pretty creative one. But there are a few plotholes hidden behind his theory.
First of all, would be the number of survivors here. Unless they’re hidden too well, it would be difficult for them to hide their tracks completely. So making an assumption, a coup-de-tat happening here is likely impossible.
Were Zhang Qin Feng was making a wild assumption, the possibility that a terrorist attack is happening here is more likely. But again, this safety measure of theirs activated a decade too late. The chance of triggering a protective layer but also adding a layer of electronic interference was impossible to happen, even by mistake.
This means this was a meticulously planned attack but didn’t trigger because of the virus outbreak.
For them to encounter this a decade later just shows how bad luck is Zhang Qin Feng and his men.
And as he continued to ponder about what happened here, an explosion occurred less than half a kilometer away. The dust scattered by vehicles running at top speed also attracted their attention as they looked at where the noises came from.
“Boss! Team leader!” the soldiers rushed to the floor Zhang Qin Feng and Zhang Tianci were at.
“I can see that. Everyone get ready. Tianci, go there and see who does these people belonged to. Check if they’re ours or someone else..” said Zhang Qin Feng.
