“Can you talk?” Zhang Qin Feng asked the slightly recovered Marvin.
“I am much better, boss. I’m sure you have many to ask, so let me rephrase it for you to get an idea of what happened.” Marvin weakly took the water from Zhang Qin Feng and moistened his throat. Even the skin around his lips has been drying to the point there’s crack all over.
Beside then lies Miria. She’s also exhausted after not knowing what to do and crying for a night without stop.
‘I’ll have to prepare some emergency Instant Recovery Spray for them as well…’ he thought.
“It happened yesterday. After we’re done clearing the swarm of zombie loitering outside our base, a group of scavengers comes. They quickly get interested in Miriam and Vice Boss Satella.” Marvin started to share what happened.
Luckily, it happened yesterday. Based on the situation, it shouldn’t be too late to take action after listening to what Marvin had to say.
“They were asking for food at first, which Vice Boss trade with them with a fair price. But who knows, they’re doing that to check how many people we had in our base.”
“It got different on their second visit. The scavengers had a skillful soldier clone with them. Using that soldier to infiltrate us from our first floor, they pincered us.” Marvin lowered his head as he was not too much of a help when such a thing happened.
As a clone focused on an engineering program, his knowledge about fighting is no different from giving a gun to a toddler and demanding him hit seven out of ten targets.
It eventually made them relying on Satella alone to defend against the base.
“Then… How come Miria is safe? Was she not around the lower floors when they attacked?” Zhang Qin Feng asked. From his point of view, they should be interested in women, and not men. This is why Marvin said they’re interested in Satella and Miriam.
“Because Miria could easily irk people’s anger from her words, we had her stay inside the newly made warehouse. This eventually keeps her safe from the scavengers.” Marvin said. It seems Miria’s foul mouth ended up saving herself from getting taken away by the scavengers.
“Alright, since you’re getting well now, tell me where did they go. I’ll go and get the girls back.” Zhang Qin Feng said.
“From the way it looks, the group of five came from the west. If you follow the road leading left before getting into the motorway, you’ll come across a small business zone. That should be where those people came from.” Marvin answered.
“Actually… That’s where I come from… The Vice Boss took me away from that place by exchanging me with two cans of General Purpose Ration.” he added. From his look when mentioning the place, it shouldn’t be a good place for a quiet stay.
“Then… I’ll leave now. Keep the base safe when we’re not here and recover yourself. I’ll leave some food here, so get yourself back to working mode as soon as possible.” Zhang Qin Feng took ten packets of assortments out from his Dimensional Storage and left them on the ground before leaving.
Making sure he’s fully ready, Zhang Qin Feng left the base swiftly and headed to the motorway.
‘Stein, keep the Luna II active until we found moving targets. I will keep using the Phalanx X-02 until we caught up to their track, so let’s get moving.’ Zhang Qin Feng said. With the Centurion S-11 strapped on the back of his shoulder, Zhang Qin Feng starts moving.
[Toot! Fifteen zombies were spotted around the user’s 1-kilometer proximity. Proceed with care!]
Stein immediately reacted the moment the Luna II report came back. Holding the pistol steadily with both hands, Zhang Qin Feng moves forward without hesitation. His action imitates the movement of the special ops agent closely.
About an hour later, Zhang Qin Feng finally reaches the place Marvin mentioned.
The business zone mentioned by Marvin closely resembles the location where his mining facility is located. But that’s the only similarity between the two worlds.
There are about ten groups. The smallest group have around seven peoples, and the larger group have between fifteen to twenty peoples. Based on their equipment alone, it is enough to put the Horus Eye Mercenaries back in his world to shame.
Everyone has at least a makeshift resin protector suit on them. Although some of them seem to be deformed or partially damaged, the protection the equipment provided is still the same. From Stein’s report, the resin protector material is comparable to a layer of carbide fiber vest back in his own world.
‘Does that means… Killing them is difficult unless I get a headshot?’ Zhang Qin Feng asked as he sneaks around the area.
[Yes. Unless you’re using the Centurion to provide blanketing fire, it would be difficult for you to kill any of them. Even the crappiest armor they had would be enough for them to take at least five to seven shots from you before they fell]
Stein’s reply is like a bucket of cold water splashed on his head. In fiction novels, all it took was a shot from the lead character to clear the enemies. But for him, five to seven shots is what it takes him to get them on the ground?
‘Did you get Satella and Miriam’s whereabout?’ Zhang Qin Feng asked. Since going in from the entrance wasn’t the best choice he got, he can only depend on Stein’s expertise to plan his next move.
[Please be patient. The system is running a simulation on how can this rescue operation be done. Ninety-seven seconds is required for the system to come up with a solution]
‘Fine, I’ll…’
‘I found Satella, Stein. Left side, on the third group. Is that her?’ Zhang Qin Feng immediately caught the sight of a woman wearing the same armor as Satella did.
[Toot!]

[There’s only a 57% matching rate from the system’s scanner. Except for some part of the hair and clothing is a match, it’s not accurate to say that the individual is the “Satella” we’re looking for]
‘Then… Focus on that group. I trust some of my hunches that the group is closely related to the one that attacked us.’ Zhang Qin Feng moved closer as he sneaks around the base.
