Chapter 5: Inspection

Chapter 5: Inspection

10 days had passed since his first summon.

It was just past noon now, around the time he woke up from his afternoon nap. He thought of the future while gazing at the grimoire. “Allen’s Status” was written on the front cover.

During these 10 days, he continued his summons behind Theresia’s back and understood many things regarding the grimoire and summoning.

First, about the grimoire.

That’s about all he got to know about the grimoire’s functions. Since then, he hadn’t received any notification from the God of this world.

Next, about the create cards.

There seems to be a limit to how much the grimoire can stock up the cards since he couldn’t summon or make more than 10 cards. When he tries to create the 11th one, “Please erase one of the existing cards” appears on the grimoire’s cover. The same happens when he tries to summon.

He also tested the beast H during this time.

«Type» Beast

«Rank» H

The inspection results:

Just as the ‘Name’ property containing “Chorosuke” in the status column suggests, it is possible to create and summon the beasts with a pet name instead of just ‘beast H’. It is certainly true that abbreviations like that are convenient for inspection and analysis but he feels that it is necessary to have names.

Insect H’s name is “Denka” now.

At present, it seems they do not have enough intelligence to listen to his words. He thought he could do something about it by giving them intensive training  but there was no sign of any change.

It doesn’t have enough intelligence and doesn’t listen to him but there’s one thing he can order.

It seems these summonable beasts have special abilities and when he says ‘run around’ or ‘special ability’ to the beast H, it starts doing it. This doesn’t seem to exhaust their mana as he made it do it numerous times.

Even at present, he is staring straight at the mouse and frantically trying to make it listen to him with willpower.

Holding his breath, he just continued inspecting it. By the way, the locust has been turned to light 3 times by Theresia during these 10 days. This house felt like one built directly into the ground with no supporting stones. There’s practically no insulation or sound proofing. There are many gaps from where insects can enter but it seems that the summoned ones are a size larger than the normal ones, making them even more revolting.

On the 10th day, he desperately endured the drowsiness and hunger while inspecting these things and also keeping a lookout for Theresia.

(Chorosuke, I know you can do it if you try. Come here.)

He opened up his arms wide, gesturing it to go closer to him. As if the beast H had heard him say it out loud, their eyes met.

“Oh!”

He reflexively let his voice out.

He was delighted thinking that he was finally able to make it listen to him. However, beast H abruptly averted its gaze and disorderly darted about the place.*

(It-it didn’t work, what part of this occupation is stronger than the demon lord?)

However, the summonable beasts do have their uses.

(Although these guys won’t be of much use in battle, by just stocking up 10 of these mouses in my grimoire, my offense rises by 10. I was surprised when I was able to carry a piece of lumber despite being only one year old.)

He has gained more strength than a normal one year old thanks to awakening to his powers as a summoner.

And, by repeating the creation and the summons, he has also come to understand how to train himself, the summoner.

(Even still, as expected of the hell mode, it’s hard leveling up.)

In hell mode, it takes 100 times longer to level up than in normal mode. Although it says one can reach an undeniable truth if they master it, diligent, extraordinary effort is needed for training.

(Finally got to 24 for skill EXP, eh? So, the used up mana turns to skill EXP, I assume. I don’t have any other skills which take up more than 2 mana to confirm either.)

Inspection results for mana and the conditions required to earn skill EXP:

He understood that he could just keep using the ‘create’ skill over and over to level  it up.

(Judging from the fact that using the skill takes up 2 mana and my max mana is also 2, it would take 500 days to get to level 2 if I were to use it once every day. However, it seems that my mana fills up in about 6 hours so I should aim to use it twice a day. Even then, it would take 250 days, eh?)

He could feel the endless time required to level up in the hell mode.

He is assuming that his mana fills up in 6 hours from the fact that it fills up when he wakes up from a half-day sleep.

He’s an infant who needs 12-15 hours of sleep a day. He doesn’t even have a clock so even if his mana can fill up 4 times a day, he realized during these 10 days that waking up at a certain time was difficult.

While there were days when he could use it thrice a day and also not even once a day, he made up his mind that he would aim to use it twice a day from now on.

(I want a memo feature to record all my findings… I mean, this book is so thick, it could easily have a memo feature.)

He wanted to memo his findings during these 10 days as much as he could.

It’s only obvious for a gamer to use a spreadsheet software to analyze the levels or status. He didn’t ask for anything as rich but he at least wanted to be able to record his inspection results.

And so, he kept thinking about wanting to use the blank pages he hadn’t used. A thought he wanted the God of this world to know.

As he was having such complaints regarding the grimoire, he heard Rodan’s voice from the other room.

“Theresia, I am back~!!”

(Oh! He’s back. Seems like he had a good haul.)

He could feel the happiness from Rodan’s voice. And like that, Allen was excited about Rodan’s return.
