The woman signaled them to follow her, then she moved aside from the wall she was leaning to and walked towards the room next to the team leader’s office. The three newbies followed her behind while listening to her.
“Our team leader is really busy these days, so he doesn’t have much time to explain things to you. He must have called you to his office just because it is the routine.”
She stood in front of the door of the room and grabbed the handle, but she stopped her hand and raised one of her eyebrows instead of opening the door.
“Oh, no. I should first show you around.”
She released the door handle and turned back to face the newbies again.
“I forgot to tell my name. It’s Thea Bray. Deputy team leader Thea Bray, but don’t call me like that. Just call me by my name.”
“Yes.”
She then started walking again. She walked around the hall and started explaining.
“First, you should know about your duties. It is obvious that the three of you are talented in combat, but that’s not all it takes to work here. Special Units is a division that deals with lots of different situations, that’s why you need to have an overall knowledge about different aspects of the work done here.”
Special Units was a division created to take care of different situations. Be it fighting terrorist groups or capturing criminals or even finding secret information, Special Units would take care of all of them.
This division was made up of people with unique skills, that’s why they were the best choice to deal with dangerous situations and other people with unique skills.
A unit in Special Units has to have a powerful combat team as well as intelligent and knowledgeable members. They had to be able to think quickly, plan, and act wisely in combat and be able to analyze, organize, and understand the data and information before a mission. That’s why strength wasn’t everything needed to enter this place.
“Besides the days that you are on a mission, you need to help the team in other ways as well. We need everyone’s help in solving the puzzles and finding the answers here.”
She stopped walking and pointed at the closed door of a room that was the closest room to the stairs.
“You can ask any questions regarding the information here from the man in that room. He is in charge of dealing with and organizing the information here.”
She then pointed at a room on the far end of the right wall of the hall, across from the room they were standing in front of.
“And that’s our archive. For now, you need to get permission to access the files in there, but you can freely read everything that is there once you’ve become an official member.”
Kairen looked around the hall while listening to her. The salon was large and wide. The floor was made out of white marble-like tiles and the walls were also painted white. Large windows were seen on the front wall of the hall, the wall across from the elevator. The elevator was located in a little bit of distance from the center of the hall, on the closer side to the hind wall that also had a few windows on it.
A few desks were placed in rows inside the bright salon. Most of the desks were empty as if they were there just to fill the empty room. There were only four desks with people working behind them.
He could see a man dozing off behind his desk and another man playing with his phone. There was also a woman that was busy reading a book. The only person who seemed to be really doing some work was a young man carefully examining some documents.
“….”
‘The members of the top unit of SMF, what?’
They just seemed like a bunch of teenagers that were forcefully held in a classroom to listen to a teacher’s boring lecture.
“Well, there are a few rules that you should make sure to follow all the time. Like, not being late for work.”
Kairen flinched at those words and hurriedly turned his wandering gaze to the woman in front of him. The woman didn’t even look at him and continued her words.
“You should try to get along with your co-workers. Don’t cause trouble. Don’t act without getting any orders from the team leader. Don’t even think of revealing any information from SMF to other people. Don’t use your powers and abilities outside here and in the city. Don’t interfere with normal citizens’ lives with the authority given to you. Don’t reveal your identity to everyone. Be alert and vigilant all the time and don’t forget to report anything to your superior. Understood?”
“””Understood!”””
The woman then looked around and touched her chin.
“Hmm… I guess there is nothing more to say? You can use one of those empty desks for now.”
“Yes.”
Deputy team leader Bray then clapped her hands and said in a loud voice.
“Hey guys, look here everyone.”
“What?”
The man that was leaning against his chair and dozing off jumped up from the loud voice and sat straight in his chair. He looked around with puffy eyes till his eyes stopped wandering when he saw deputy team leader Bray. It was funny how a muscular man with scruffy hair and a messily shaved beard was staring blankly at deputy team leader Bray with sleepy eyes.
The woman that was reading a book also lowered her book and looked up. The man playing with his phone pressed a button on the phone and looked away from it. The young man that was concentrated on his papers also raised his head and looked at them.
Deputy team leader Bray moved her arms and patted the three newbies’ back.
“These three will work here for a while from now. Be nice to them.”
‘OY! It hurts!’
Kairen’s back hurt after getting patted by that woman, but he couldn’t say anything and just smiled at the four people looking at them.
“Ah! New members?”
The young man put down his pen and smiled brightly at them. The thin boy seemed really happy to see them. Contrary to him, the sleepy man glared at them with annoyance.
“Tch! And I thought something had happened.”
He folded his arms and leaned back again with closed eyes.
“Oh, hello.”
“Welcome.”
The other two also greeted them politely and continued with what they were doing.
“Rai, can you please help them out in case they need anything?”
The thin, young man replied to her with a bright smile.
“Of course!”
Ding
At that moment, the elevator made a sound and its door opened.
“Gosh! How can I be late on such a day?”
A girl jumped out of the elevator while nagging loudly. She was a teenage girl with a backpack on her shoulders.
“What are you doing here?”
The teenager flinched and slowly turned to deputy team leader Bray. She made a solemn and polite face and started to stutter.
“I… um… I wanted to see-“
She stopped talking as soon as she saw three new faces standing beside the deputy team leader.
“Gasp!”
She gasped after seeing Reyan and placed her hands on her mouth.
“….??”
Reyan tilted his head at the girl’s reaction, but the girl quickly turned her head and looked at Kairen with her hands still on her mouth.
“….”
She then looked between Reyan and Kairen with sparkling eyes.
‘Who is she?’
The girl hurriedly averted her gaze and looked at deputy team leader Bray just when Kairen was thinking that.
“Ahem.”
She finally moved her hands and pointed at the three of them with her finger and said in an excited voice.
“I-I came to see the new members. It is essential to get to know the people who may work with me in the future, right?”
‘She works here?’
Kairen looked at the girl again. She was just a teenager around 14-15 years old. Why was she working at such a place?
The deputy team leader placed her hand on her hip and narrowed her eyes.
“Go study in my office.”
“Please, sis! Please! Just one day! I’ll study twice later. Pleaseeeee!”
“Haaa.”
The woman sighed and closed her eyes.
“Just an hour.”
“Yesss!”
The girl exclaimed happily. She threw away her backpack and turned to Reyan and Kairen again with sparkling eyes.
“Hello, I’m Asa.. Nice to meet you.”
