Little Miss Witch: Revenge of the Tainted Angel Novel

Chapter 43 - You Asked For Divorce, Don't Regret It Later (2)

Li Xiuying had no idea what he wanted from her right now. For the past few days, she was the one who avoided meeting him. She was forcing herself to get used to a life without him and it wouldn’t help her to move on if she was still seeing him everywhere she goes.

She was dumbfounded for a moment upon seeing him but recovered immediately after. She took her coat that she placed on top of her desk, turned around before placing it over her shoulders.

“What are you doing here?” She sounded annoyed but Mu Jianyu didn’t notice it. She decided to ignore the look he had earlier and turned around to get back to her desk.

Sitting behind the table, away from her husband, Li Xiuying pretended to be busy working before asking him.

“Why are you still here? Aren’t you going to attend the party later?”

It took some seconds before Mu Jianyu broke his daze and blinked twice at his wife’s question. His hand lifted the envelope on it to show the purpose of his unannounced visit.

“I’m here for this.” Mu Jianyu waved it with his hand.

Li Xiuying glanced on it before turning her gaze back to his face. It was obvious what the envelope had inside.

“This is my official resignation as the CTO of Li Corporation. I hope you’ll approve it, Ying,” he strode towards her desk and placed his resignation letter on top of it.

Li Xiuying lifted her head and met his eyes. Now, they were only separated by her desk.

So he’d planned to leave the company no matter what. Did he think that by leaving the company, they wouldn’t be able to find evidence against him?

She nodded and accepted his resignation on the spot, surprising Mu Jianyu. He thought that she’d question his actions and would complain over it.

“I have no reason why I shouldn’t approve it. You made huge sacrifices for Li Corporation and that’s something I can never repay you with,” she told him.

No… Mu Jianyu wanted to correct her. He didn’t do all those things for the company’s sake. All those sleepless nights spent overtime was because of her. He never wanted to be known in the business community only because of her.

He did not speak but tried to understand what was her intention. Her actions surprised him as it wasn’t what he had expected.

Mu Jianyu wondered if Lin Meirong’s assumptions weren’t really baseless as he initially thought.

“I’ve already informed my family about our impending divorce and they have no objections… It is just…” Li Xiuying paused and stared straight into his eyes. “They want to hear the reason why we are divorcing,”

No, the Li family didn’t really care for his reasons as they were already aware of his infidelity but Li Xiuying wondered if he would remain a liar until the end. Would he dare to deny Lin Meirong’s existence until now or would he be brave enough to admit that he’d fallen out of love with her and found someone new?

Recovering from the unthinkable betrayal and shock her husband had given her, Li Xiuying, now with a clearer mind, had made a bold decision to let go and let Mu Jianyu suffer the repercussions of his actions.

Though she struggled to choose her next path, talking to her twin sister had somehow lessened the troubles in her heart. She might not be able to witness Mu Jianyu’s imminent downfall later and Lin Meirong’s bitter end but it didn’t matter as long as she and her child wouldn’t get involved with it.

“Ying, I’m pretty sure you can tell them the reason. Why ask when it’s already obvious that this marriage isn’t working for the two of us?”

“Well, are you sure that you aren’t cheating on me? Didn’t you ask me for divorce because of another woman?” She countered. “Didn’t you fall out of love because you’ve found a new one?”

Mu Jianyu was frozen in his spot, his jaws dropped at his wife’s blatant questioning. Was she suspecting him of adultery? Did she really know about his affair with Lin Meirong?

However, in the end, Mu Jianyu shut his mouth close, his lips forming a thin line.

“Ying, how can you say something like that? No one’s comparable to you. This… I’m only asking you for divorce so both of us could be truly happy, even if it isn’t by each other’s side.”

The corner of Li Xiuying’s lips curled into a smile, something Mu Jianyu found unusual. It wasn’t the same sweet smile she always gave to him. Her smile didn’t even reach her eyes. Anyway, who would be happy if you found out your marriage had crumbled down and was far from saving?

Lies after lies, wasn’t he afraid to be hit by lightning? His neverending deceit and lies would be the death of him. Why was she expecting a different result whenever she confronted him with his lies? To make matters worse, she pretended to be ignorant so that he doesn’t realize she knows — it was a layer of deceit upon deceit, but it’s what she needs to do to win somehow.

Every lie he uttered only made him despicable in her eyes. There was no hope for him any longer. One day when karma comes after him, he should only blame himself.

“I see…” Li Xiuying nodded.. “You’re the one who asked for the divorce, you better make sure you won’t regret this later.”
