Another Guest at Xiaoman’s House (1)
After listening to Teacher Tang’s story, Jiang Xiaoman’s mood quickly improved and she decided to continue coming to school the next day.
Teacher Tang told her that it was okay if she had some problems. She could just ask if there was anything she didn’t understand. It was okay to take it slowly step by step, the most important thing is to have a happy learning experience.
Besides Teacher Tang, she also had the system to ask questions to.
In the beginning, the system was very reluctant in helping her learn how to read and refused when Jiang Xiaoman asked it. It was a villain system, not a parenting system! I was very reluctant to do such things.
The system said, “Host, we systems have a very strict division of labor, each with their specific tasks. Our path is the villain growth route, not Beijing University or Tsinghua University.”
When she heard the system’s rejection, Jiang Xiaoman replied in a very understanding manner. “So Mr. System also cannot read this word. It’s okay, everyone has something they’re not good at. Since you don’t understand it either, then I’ll go ask Teacher Tang. He’s so amazing, I’m sure he would know.”
After all, she was a very smart and considerate kid. Of course, she was also considerate of the system. She could not force the system to do what it couldn’t do.
To the system, Jiang Xiaoman’s understanding of consideration sounded like… sarcasm, pushing it to take action. Even though it knew that she couldn’t have meant it that way, the system still had emotions.
It remained silent for a long, long time and finally went along and said, “Those words read ‘Pity the Farmers’, it is a poem that means blablabla…”
It explained everything thoroughly all at once.
Such a simple question, how could an intelligent system like it possibly be unable to answer it? It would not bring shame to systems everywhere!
Jiang Xiaoman’s eyes lit up and she praised, “Mr. System, you are so amazing.”
“…En, thank you.”
Jiang Xiaoman felt that she got a lot smarter after learning this poem, so she decided to go to school tomorrow. To motivate herself, Jiang Xiaoman made up her mind and asked, “Mr. System, you must wake me up at 6 o’clock sharp tomorrow morning.”
So in addition to helping Jiang Xiaoman learn to read, now the system also had to act as her alarm clock.
When she left the next day, Jiang Xiaoman took a few pieces of black charcoal from the stove to school, planning to practice writing the letters on the ground before writing them on the notebook once she got the hang of it.
She originally wanted to draw tadpoles in the notebook Teacher Tang gave her, but felt a bit reluctant and finally decided to use it only to write.
But her current handwriting was too ugly and would look no different from drawing a tadpole.
Jiang Xiumei helped her wrap the charcoals in some leaves. She stayed up all night yesterday, sewing Jiang Xiaoman a small makeshift schoolbag using some pieces of rags. Today, Jiang Xiaoman left the house, skipping while carrying the schoolbag.
The weather was very hot, but she insisted on wearing her tiger hat and would not take it off for even a second.
It was still okay early in the morning when the air was a little cold, but the sun would get bigger the closer it is to noon. Wouldn’t it be very hot?
Jiang Xiumei said, “You’ll get heat rash. Don’t wear the hat, take it off.”
Jiang Xiaoman protected her hat and shook her head vigorously, refusing to take it off even if it would cost her life.
The place where her hair had been cut was spiky and still hadn’t grown back yet. It was cut only at the spot where the hair was being tied and looked very ugly as if someone had put a bowl on her head then trimmed her hair around it.
Jiang Xiaoman was very coquettish and loved her hair very much, she did not want to be seen in this uncute state.
