Manaless Mage Novel

Chapter 10 Investigations

Harry’s eyelids trembled slightly as he looked at the optional quest. He even ignored the system’s evaluation that was at the bottom of the quest as his eyes shone at the juicy rewards. “15000 EXP… 40 stat points… that’s h-huge.” Harry said in shock. 𝗼𝐯𝐥.𝗻𝐭

Two men could be seen standing in the middle of the road, one of them was tall and had pitch black hair while the other had an average height and short blonde hair.

They were putting on long black coats and matching black gloves, the most distinctive thing about their clothing was the small golden badge on the left side of their chests, on which was written ‘adventurer mages organization’.

As for the road they were standing on, it was the same road where Harry was attacked by the mana beast and also where the mana beast died.

The black haired man squinted his eyes slightly as he slowly crouched on the road. He slowly closed his eyes while placing his right hand on the ground. His brows twitched slightly as he infused his mana sense into the ground.

The ground vibrated softly due to the strange energy passing through it, his brows twitched as he slowly extended the range of his mana sense.

‘Come on… something… anything…’ He thought. He eventually gave up as he opened his eyes, a frustrated sigh left his lips as he stood back up.

“Were you finally able to sense something sir?” The blonde haired man beside him said.

If Harry was here, he’d recognize one of them as the same representative who came to meet him in the hospital. The one known as Terry.

“No… I can’t find anything here, no trace of mana, no single thing. Even my mana sense doesn’t detect anything, It’s almost as if… nothing happened here. If not for the sign that something definitely passed through the head of that mana beast… there would be no trace for us to follow.” Terry said while sighing helplessly.

The AMO was contacted late during the mana beast attack. Due to this, they weren’t able to get to the rift on time.

The fact that there were no casualties was pure luck. This was made possible by the fact that only one mana beast emerged from the rift; if more had, many innocent people would undoubtedly have lost their lives.

From the way the mana beast was killed, the AMO’s hypothesis was that the killer would at least be a powerful mage.

Mana beasts—especially those from stage five and above—were practically the worst enemies for Elementalists.

Their scales were not only thick but also extremely durable, elemental attacks(spells) couldn’t just penetrate it easily. Coupled with their regeneration ability and their unpredictable attacks.

Elementalists didn’t have strong bodies like combat mages; so facing a mana beast was very difficult for them. Since they were mainly focused on long ranged attacks, Elementalists would have to launch their spells relentlessly or finish it with one powerful spell. If too much time was wasted, the mana beast’s regeneration would kick in, rendering all their earlier efforts useless.

However, another strange thing happened, one even stranger than the mana beast’s death. There was no trace of mana from the attack, or from the dead mana beast.

Whenever Elementalists or Elemental mages used their magic, a trace of their mana would linger in the air for about a day before finally dissipating. Any mage(either combat or elemental) experienced in mana sense would surely be able to sense the lingering mana.

In this case, there was no trace of mana from the surroundings where the mana beast died.

‘I hate this… all I want to do is rest and not stress myself over some stupid… mana beast death.’ Terry complained inwardly.

The AMO found the situation strange so they were currently investigating on it.

They wanted to know more about the person who killed the beast with a simple attack, and know whether he/she was on the side of humanity or otherwise.

Terry was someone with a lazy attitude, if not for the fact that he was personally asked by grand mage Nate to lead this investigation, he wouldn’t have bothered himself about it.

Back then he was extremely happy when he was told he wouldn’t be needed to clear the rift, if he had been known that he would be stuck with this investigation leading role, he would have simply jumped into the rift.

He was inwardly cursing the grand mage up to his fifth generation for giving him this stupid investigation leading role, he still remembered what the grand mage said when he gave him the job.

“You’re the one best fit to conduct this investigation, find out what or who killed that mana beast.” The grand mage said to him while giving him a gentle pat on his shoulders.

“Yes sir… I’ll try my best to find out the cause of its death.” Terry said while bowing down slightly in respect.

He felt really terrified standing in the presence of a grand mage, even though the grand mage wasn’t using any of his pressure or killing intent on him, the fact that he was standing before a grand mage, one of the earliest ones at that made him feel tense.

‘I’m not fit for anything, I just want to rest and enjoy my life!’ he felt like screaming those words at the grand mage but he knew if he did that his life could be practically over.

Although he was curious about the mana beast’s death, it wasn’t up to the point where he would chose to lead an investigation on it.

Terry shook his head slowly as a sigh left his lips. ‘I’ve sighed a million times in one day.’ He thought.

“Let’s go back Lon… we would ask for the result on the scan of the mana beast’s body,” he said while getting ready to leave. His brain really needed to rest.

The other ABO officer simply nodded his head as they left with one thought on their minds, ‘Who or what killed the mana beast?’
