Manaless Mage Novel

Chapter 35 New Quest Alert: Comprehend An Affinity

He immediately sat up as he waited for the next notification from the system.

However, nothing could have prepared him for the system next words.

[Beginning Evolution… FAILED!!

EVOLUTION FAILED!]

“What?!” Harry couldn’t help but exclaim. He hadn’t expected the evolution to… fail. Since it was brought up by the system, he thought the process would immediately go through.

The same thing reoccurred twice before the system went silent.

“Why did it fail?” Harry asked. He knew thinking over it was pointless as there was no way he could understand the system, so he simply asked the only one… or thing, that could know the answer, the system.

[…]

Unfortunately, there was no reply from the system.

Just then, another notification appeared in front of him.

——

—Manaless Mage class evolution FAILED!

—Requirements not met!

[To become a Manaless mage, the host needs to break all the laws surrounding mana.]

——

Luckily for him, the system finally replied. However, its reply only served to increase his confusion.

‘Break all the laws surrounding mana?’ Harry mumbled inwardly. The system’s words sounded weird to him, he had never followed any of the ‘laws of mana’ to begin with. He gained a strange system, on top of that he was able to use spells in form of skills, weren’t those law breaking enough…?

There was another word that stood out among the notifications, ‘class’. Harry could only guess that it was similar to the class in games—the system had always followed a game-like format.

[The host must unlock at least four affinities before he is finally able to advance to the class ‘Manaless Mage’]

‘Four affinities… I only have three.’ Harry thought. A slight smile appeared on his face as he thought about his affinities, in the past, he had been unable to awaken a low-grade affinity but now he didn’t have just one but three of them. Even among all the students in the academy, none of them had had three affinities.

——

—Assigning rightful Evolution path

—Does the Host want to evolve into lower class ‘Novice Manaless Mage’?

——

A slight grimace appeared on Harry’s face, from the words ‘lower’ and ‘novice’, he didn’t need anyone to tell him that this was a lesser version of the Manaless Mage class. Unfortunately, he hadn’t met the requirement to evolve into the latter, he still needed to unlock one more affinity.

“Yes.” Harry muttered. Although, it might be a lesser version, it was still an improvement. He had no choice but to accept this class and wait till he meet the requirement for the Manaless Mage class.

[Beginning Evolution…]

A huge burst of energy stirred in his chest region, although it was sudden, Harry didn’t feel any pain whatsoever. The sensation was similar to when he leveled up or used mana conceal—it was refreshing.

A low groan left his lips, however, it wasn’t one of pain or anguish but one of relaxation and pleasure. This time, the energy seemed to be a lot more, making him feel like his whole existence was being submerged into a warm and refreshing liquid. .

It kept spreading from his chest, to his arms before going down to his legs. Harry just sat in the same position, he didn’t try to fight the energy that was moving inside him—he didn’t even want it to stop.

Unfortunately, all good things must surely come to an end as the refreshing sensation finally stopped spreading around his body.

A low tsk left Harry’s lips as he lied down on the floor. He thought the evolution had ended so he just wanted to see his new stats.

However, reality proved him wrong as a huge amount of pain suddenly erupted from his chest.

Harry’s hand subconsciously tightened around his chest as he tried his best to hold back a scream.

He could feel his skin expanding and contracting forcefully and he could also hear his heart beating loudly. His muscles seemed to be rebuilding themselves, they rapidly contracted and relaxed, making him feel nothing but excruciating pain. Even his bones seemed to be wriggling around.

Luckily, the pain only lasted for a few seconds. Harry panted as he laid down flat on the floor, a sigh left his lips as he looked at the notification that appeared in front of him.

[Evolution Complete!]

‘At last… it’s over.’ Harry mumbled inwardly.

[Congrats Host! Class Evolution successful!]

[Charm stat unlocked!]

[New stat gained: Mental stat unlocked]

[Skills tab unlocked!]

[Host should check the system’s interface and stats for more information]

Harry’s eyes gleamed with joy as he read through the notifications. Finally, his charm stat was unlocked! He also gained a new stat!

He was about to check the system’s interface when he was interrupted by another notification.

——

[New Quest Alert!]

[Unlocking Affinities ]

—Comprehend An Affinity

—Time Limit: Six months

>>Rewards For completion: 5000EXP, Class Evolution

>>Punishment For Quest Failure: 50% Reduction in all stats.

——

Harry couldn’t help but sigh as he read through the quest.

‘How do I comprehend an affinity?’ Harry asked the system. The last time, when he asked the system about the different ways to unlock more affinities, the system gave him three options. One of them was to comprehend the affinity.

However, he didn’t understand how he was supposed to comprehend an element, unfortunately, the system didn’t shed any more light on it.

Now, he had a quest the required him to comprehend an affinity in six months!

How he would start? He had no idea.

What made him worry was the punishment placed under the quest—luckily, it wasn’t hidden this time. A fifty percent reduction in his stats was no joke, his stats would basically be halved, there was no way he would let that happen.

Luckily, the system replied this time.

[To comprehend an affinity, The host needs to learn how it works. The host needs to perfectly understand the element.]

‘Perfectly understand an element?’ Harry said inwardly. No matter how much he tried to understand the system words, he just couldn’t get how he was supposed to perfectly understand an affinity.

People were born with affinities, it was a natural phenomenon. Trying to fully understand them was like trying to create oxygen without displacing it from other gases.

‘The system has never done things ‘normally’, there would surely be a way to comprehend an affinity… and I would find it before six… no four months.’ Harry thought in determination. ‘Let me just check my stats.’
