Outside the old, dilapidated warehouse, the sun was setting, casting an eerie orange glow on everything in sight.
A woman with flowing purple hair stood there, stunned into silence, unbothered by the putrid stench emanating from inside.
With a heavy heart, she gazed upon the bodies, all of them appearing to have been killed in the most inhumane and brutal way possible.
Blood was splattered everywhere, seeping into every crack and crevice, staining the walls and floors crimson.
“What exactly happened here?” she whispered to herself, disbelief etched on her face.
Suddenly, another voice intruded, sending shivers down her spine. “It looks good, doesn’t it?”
Leng Yan spun around, ready to strike the intruder. But right before her hand could make contact, a surge of purple lightning entered her body, shaking her to the core. “What?” she gasped.
Her eyes opened in disbelief as she stared dumbfounded at Zhang Wei, who was grinning victoriously.
“Y-You’re a cultivator?” she stammered, surprised that she hadn’t sensed his cultivation.
Did that mean he was stronger than her?
No, she couldn’t accept that this small city had a monster hiding in plain sight. She raised her leg to kick him, but he caught it effortlessly.
Leng’s eyes widened as she leaped backward, maintaining her distance from him.
Zhang Wei grinned. “Police officer, why so aggressive? Shouldn’t you be more gentle? Or else you’ll be single for your whole life, just like your mother said!”
Zhang Wei’s taunting words caught Leng off-guard. Her face twitched, but she restrained herself from attacking him.
Taking a few deep breaths, she asked, “Where is Song Roulan?”
She spoke with suspicion and anger, still seething at Zhang Wei.
The latter chuckled softly before pointing to a certain spot. Leng raised her eyebrows and followed his gaze.
Her gaze finally landed on a pair of small blue shoes, the severed legs still inside.
Leng’s whole body trembled as she realized who the owner of the shoes was. “Song Roulan…?” she whispered to herself, and Zhang Wei nodded behind her. “Uh-huh!”
The sight of the tiny shoes, now stained with blood, made her heart sink.
She felt a deep sense of sorrow and anger.
How could anyone be so cruel as to do this to a child?
Leng Yan’s heart felt heavy with regret as she looked at the broken girl lying on the floor. Her mind raced with thoughts of guilt and shame – she was the one who had brought the innocent girl to Zhang Wei at his request. She couldn’t bear the weight of her actions as she asked him with an unfocused gaze, “Did you do this?”
Zhang Wei smirked, his cold eyes glinting with wicked amusement. He nodded, as if appreciating the scene before him. Leng Yan’s stomach churned with disgust, but she kept her composure, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing her break down.
Despite his own revulsion, Zhang Wei continued to play his twisted game of manipulation, purposefully triggering Leng Yan with his callous behavior. He was a monster in human form, and he knew it.
Leng Yan fell silent, unable to find the words to express her anger and disgust. It wasn’t until later that she found her voice, her tone calm yet dangerous. “You are a terrible human being,” she hissed, her eyes blazing with fury. “Maybe you aren’t even a human being, but a monster.”
Zhang Wei heard her words and pretended to be confused, his lips curling into a mocking smile. “Really? I thought my birth certificate mentioned that I am human though… So, were they wrong?”
Leng Yan gritted her teeth, her fists clenched in anger. “Yes, they were wrong,” she spat, her voice dripping with venom. “You may have the body of a human, but you have the soul of a monster. And that makes you far worse than any beast.”
With a sudden and startling intensity, she whipped around and shot a piercing, ice-cold glare at Zhang Wei. “Monsters have no place in this world,” she spat, her voice laced with venom. “The moment I laid eyes on you, I knew you were not as polite as you pretended to be.”
Zhang Wei’s expression twisted into a wry smile. “I never claimed to be polite,” he said with a hint of sarcasm. “Don’t make assumptions based on-”
Whoosh!
Before he could even finish his sentence, Leng Yan’s fist came hurtling towards him, crackling with the fierce energy of her Qi. The punch made contact with his body, unleashing a deafening shockwave that reverberated through the air.
With a whooshing sound, Zhang Wei was sent flying several meters away, his shirt shredded and his eyes bulging in shock. “The power of friendship?” he muttered incredulously.
The system promptly chimed in with a warning. [Host, be careful. Your power may be on par with hers, but she has far more experience and a higher level than you do.]
Leng Yan was taken aback by Zhang Wei’s resilience. Despite being thrown back by her punch, he managed to land on his feet and quickly regained his balance. His shredded shirt fell off, revealing his muscular body that was covered in a layer of crackling lightning.
“You’re not bad,” he said, a hint of admiration in his voice. “But I’m afraid I can’t let you win.”
With a roar, Zhang Wei unleashed the full power of his Thunder God Wrath technique. A surge of lightning energy enveloped his body, causing his muscles to bulge and his eyes to glow with a fierce light. He charged towards Leng Yan, his fist crackling with thunder.
Leng Yan gritter her teeth and raised her hands to form a defensive barrier. The lightning energy collided with the barrier, creating a deafening explosion that shook the entire area. Despite her best efforts, Leng Yan could feel her barrier weakening under the onslaught of Zhang Wei’s attack. 𝒪𝑽𝓵xt.𝒸𝔬𝑀
“This can’t be happening,” Leng Yan thought, her heart racing as she faced off against Zhang Wei. “I can’t lose like this.”
In an instant, she removed her barrier and extended her fist towards him, taking him head on. Their fists collided with a deafening boom, sending shockwaves through the air.
The battle didn’t end there, as blow after blow was exchanged between the two fighters. Boom! Boom!
Despite her battered appearance, Leng Yan refused to give up. She coughed up blood, but continued to fight on, her movements fluid and graceful.
On closer inspection, it became clear that despite her injuries, Leng Yan was the more experienced fighter, able to connect more blows than Zhang Wei. If not for his extraordinary powers, she might have already defeated him.
The battle raged on, each fighter struggling to gain the upper hand. Zhang Wei’s Thunder God Wrath technique crackled around him, while Leng Yan’s elemental powers danced in the air around her. Blood trickled down her forehead, but she ignored the pain, focusing solely on defeating her opponent.
Leng Yan was exhausted from the prolonged battle, but she knew that she couldn’t give up now. She drew on every last bit of her strength, channeling her Qi to the maximum as she prepared to deliver her final strike.
With a fierce cry, she unleashed a burst of energy, sending a powerful gust of wind hurtling towards Zhang Wei. But as the wind approached, he charged forward with incredible speed, his fist crackling with lightning energy.
The two attacks collided with a deafening boom, the shockwaves rippling through the old warehouse and causing debris to rain down from above. Leng Yan felt a searing pain in her chest as Zhang Wei’s fist connected with her, sending her flying back and crashing onto the ground.
Blood trickled from her mouth as she struggled to catch her breath, her body convulsing from the impact. For a moment, there was silence as both combatants caught their breath, the only sound being the heavy panting of their labored breaths.
But then, Leng Yan slowly rose to her feet, her eyes filled with determination. Despite her injuries, she refused to give up. “I won’t be defeated that easily,” she declared, her voice echoing through the warehouse.
Leng Yan’s eyes narrowed as she summoned the full extent of her icy powers. The temperature around the warehouse plummeted, causing a visible mist to form in the air. Zhang Wei shivered as the cold penetrated his body, and he hastily circulated his Qi to resist the icy chill.
But Leng Yan was relentless. As she chanted a spell, the air around her crackled with energy. Suddenly, dozens of ice spikes erupted from the ground, their razor-sharp tips glowing with a deadly light.
Zhang Wei initially felt confident, thinking he could easily dodge the spikes. But as their numbers multiplied, he began to feel a sense of unease. He knew that even a single hit from those spikes could be fatal.
Leng Yan noticed his change of expression, “If you surrender, I won’t kill you!” she said with loud voice.
Zhang Wei instantly changed his expression once again, “Tsk, I thought you were cold only from the words, it appears your whole personality is cold!”
Leng Yan sighed, “You asked fot it!”
“You’re making a mistake, Leng Yan,” he said, trying to keep his voice steady. “I have no intention of surrendering to you.”
Leng Yan didn’t respond, her eyes locked on her target. With a flick of her wrist, the ice spikes shot forward, hurtling towards Zhang Wei in a relentless barrage.
Whoosh!
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Zhang Wei darted and weaved, dodging as many spikes as he could. But he could feel the deadly tips grazing his skin, drawing blood. He knew he couldn’t keep this up forever.
As Leng Yan continued to send wave after wave of ice spikes at him, Zhang Wei gritted his teeth and summoned all his strength. He knew he had to come up with a plan, and fast, or he would be defeated for sure.
The sound of ice spikes piercing through the air echoed through the warehouse, creating an eerie atmosphere. Zhang Wei had nowhere to escape as the excessive number of ice spikes closed in on him one after another. Each impact felt like it could crush his organs, possibly worse than actual bullets.
Leng Yan closed her eyes and took deep breaths, feeling utterly exhausted from using such a demanding technique. As she opened her eyes again, she expected to see Zhang Wei’s body torn to shreds, but what she saw made her mind go blank in disbelief.
“What!?” she exclaimed.
Zhang Wei stood there, appearing unharmed externally, but his face showed the pain he had endured from the intense impact of the ice spikes. His diamond body had saved him from being killed instantly. There was no blood dripping from his body, and his entire body shimmered like diamonds.
Leng Yan was speechless and stared at Zhang Wei in disbelief, muttering to herself, “Just what is he made of?”
All her ice spikes had been shattered to dust upon colliding with Zhang Wei’s enhanced body, further adding to the touch. It looked like a man made up of diamond was standing on a lot of diamonds, as the dust and fragments from the ice spikes mingled with the diamonds on the ground.
Zhang Wei’s lips twisted into a smirk. “You shouldn’t lose focus during a fight, miss police officer,” he taunted.
Leng Yan’s heart raced as she snapped out of her momentary lapse. She didn’t know what Zhang Wei was planning, but she summoned every last bit of energy in her body to create an energy shield in front of her.
Zhang Wei’s smirk widened as he watched her fall into his trap. The lightning around his body crackled and grew, making her even more alert.
The crackling of electricity filled the air as the storm above them intensified. The sky above the warehouse turned an ominous shade of black, but neither of them could notice it due to the roof blocking their view.
When Leng Yan least expected it, she heard a deafening roar and a beam of lightning struck directly on her head from above. Her eyes opened wide, and she felt her whole body being electrocuted, sending shockwaves through her entire being.
For one last time, she looked at Zhang Wei. The latter stood there with a sly smile as he watched her helplessly struggle. Leng Yan summoned a shield in front of her, but she had left herself exposed from the top. With no remaining energy to defend herself, the lightning pierced through her body, making her feel completely numb.
Suddenly, she started falling towards the ground.
Thud!
Leng Yan’s body fell to the ground with a sickening thud. With a last twitch, she was finally defeated.
Zhang Wei slumped to the ground at the same time, having exhausted all his strength.
He needed a short rest before he could continue his plans with her.
As he lay there, he couldn’t help but feel a sense of exhilaration and triumph course through his veins.
