“Perfect,” Jasmine said. She was happy to hear Jackson’s words despite that she didn’t mention them.
The two hurried downstairs to join her mother. When they got there, they met Mrs Avans sitting on the couch.
“Good morning, Auntie,” Jackson greeted bowing slightly to show his respect.
“Good morning mum,” Jasmine greeted as she hastened to sit beside her mother.
“Mum, what are you doing here? Why didn’t you inform me you were gonna drop by….,”
“Aren’t you so eager to make him my son-in-law so don’t tell me I don’t have the right to visit my future son-in-law…,”
“Of course not Auntie. My mansion will always be wide open for Auntie to visit any time she wants,” Jackson said politely. He sat down on the opposite couch. One gaze at him and you would see how nervous he looks.
“Mum, you know that is not what I meant,” Jasmine said in a bid to defend herself.
“Auntie, please what would you have me serve you. Is it tea, coffee, juice…,”
“Jackson, you can relax. It’s not her father you are talking to. No matter the score we have to settle later in the future, I won’t eat you up. You are the man my daughter loves and the father of…,” Jasmine’s dry cough and the way she shook her mother’s hand made Mrs Avans pause what she wanted to say.
Curious to know Mrs Avans next words Jackson continued staring at her face. He couldn’t understand what she wanted to say before Jasmine cough interrupted her.
“Anyways, I won’t be here for a long time so you don’t have to bother about serving me anything. I came here to take Jasmine to the hospital for a check up. She and I will be leaving in a few minutes,” Mrs Avans composed herself better than Jasmine had thought. She only felt relieved after her mother covered up her previous words.
“Auntie, it doesn’t matter how long you are gonna stay here so please let Lilian serve you. I will feel terrible for days or even months if Auntie leaves my home for the first time without tasting anything,” Jackson said in a sad tone. Mrs Avans had no choice but to tell Lilian to get her a cup of coffee.
“And Auntie, is Jasmine perhaps seriously ill?” Jackson asked after Lilian had left to get Mrs Avans orders.
“Actually, I have been noticing a lot of changes in her after she returned. I repeatedly ask her what was wrong but she won’t disclose anything to me. I am afraid she might be suffering right by my side without me knowing it,” Jackson explains in an affectionate tone.
Mrs Avans turned to stare at her daughter clinging to her. She knew the only reason Jasmine was acting so clingy was that she was afraid she would mistakenly reveal the truth to Jackson.
“Ice Prince, I have told you I am fine…,”
“She has always been like that since she was a child. I always had to force her to go to the hospital with me in the past so I am not surprised she hasn’t changed….,”
“Mum, I am nothing like that. I am a very good and obedient girl so please don’t slander me in front of him,” Jasmine acted innocently just to make her mum retract her words.
“You don’t need to say whether or not you are good and obedient because I am sure he has already known the answer,” Mrs Avans said. She shifted her gaze to Jasmine once more time.
“Jasmine, go dress up so I can take you to the hospital for a check-up…,”
“Mum, I am fine. I have told you before that I don’t need to visit the doctor yet. Besides I am no longer a child who needs to be taken to the hospital,” Jasmine said vehemently as she released her mother’s hands
“Ice Prince and I had already made plans to spend the entire day together. I can’t follow you to the hospital…,”
“I won’t force you to come to the hospital with me but you will do that willing except you want me to break the news about the baby to him. Let’s see whether you will remain stubborn….,”
“Mum!” Jasmine shouted startling Jackson who didn’t hear what her mum whispered into her ears.
“Mum, you are threatening me and this is not fair…,”
“Do you believe that I will tell him the truth right now if you still don’t make up your mind? I am not very patient when it concerns the little bun inside of you so make a choice Jasmine Avans?” Mrs Avans whispered not daring to let Jasmine have her way this time around.
“I will go change and follow you to the hospital right now. I admit you have won this time around mum,” Jasmine said, standing up to her feet almost immediately. Jasmine approached the stairs to the surprise of Jackson who had planned to convince Jasmine to do as her mum said.
“Jackson, I hope you don’t have a problem with me borrowing my daughter for a few hours?” Mrs Avans facing Jackson now asked.
“Jasmine is your beloved daughter and she will forever be yours. Auntie doesn’t need to ask for my permission to take her somewhere,” Jackson’s politeness made Mrs Avans like him more.
“Auntie, please can I ask you whether you have an idea of what is wrong with her?” Jackson asked in a meek tone yet showing seriousness.
How could he not be serious when this concerns the health of his beloved woman.
“Auntie, apart from the change in her taste and appetite, she often feels nauseous in the morning. She sleeps more frequently too; although I know this one is a good sign the other signs makes me very worried. I tried convincing her to visit the hospital with me but she insisted she was ok,” Jackson said with worry written all over his face.
If not that Mrs Avans had a valid reason for concealing the truth she would have disclosed the news to Jackson right this minute.
