Primordial Dimensions Novel

Chapter 83 - Ground&Aerial

Rushing out of the shelter hall, Shane smiled lightly when he heard the young soldiers trying to catch up to him.

Pursuing him was useless because they had more important things to do as a beast tide of two different beast races was about to occur.

Shane wasn’t sure if he could help in any way, but he would do everything in his power in order to support the military.

He was still unsure if he would really have to talk with the superior who was supposed to take care of everything within the RadiantRing shelter, but he could decide later.

After thinking about what he could do, Shane decided to calm down the citizens and help everyone outside to search for refuge within the finished houses and Inns.

Shane was confident that if the streets were to be emptied of all civilians and construction workers, the soldiers would have a much easier time moving around while rushing from one place to another.

Not much time had passed and he met a bunch of vendors, who were clueless about what exactly was going on. Shane ordered them to move away, but they disregarded his words, labeling him as a fraud.

Most vendors and stall owners at the Basic-Primordial Dimensions didn’t want to fight and usually preferred to live a rather relaxed and quiet life. They had never ventured out of a shelter hence they were not even remotely aware of the dangers lurking outside.

These vendors would accumulate funds and wait until they reached the age to ascend to the Intermediate-Dimensions with a mana purity of exactly 60%.

After that most vendors would just continue to live a rather relaxed life while selling their food, items, or equipment in order to reach higher ranks.

However, their combat prowess was almost nil, while their will was extremely weak.

As such, Shane used something he didn’t use until now.

Circulating his mana, he unsheathed his daggers, before his eyes turned murderously cold. He manifested the killing intent that he had accumulated since he had killed his first beast.

Shane seemed to grow many folds, as the vendors and stall owners stepped back involuntarily, staring at him with shocked expressions.

They knew that the youth in front of them was at a later stage of the Mortal stage and nothing they should be afraid of. However, they couldn’t help but retreat due to the murderous aura radiating from him.

‘What the hell is he? Is he a beast??’ The citizens asked themself before they decided to follow Shane’s orders without disregarding his authority anymore.

It was possible that Shane was from the military, even though he didn’t wear their clothes or even worse…from a prestigious family.

In the end, the youth in front of them radiated a certain charisma and his overbearing attitude caused them to accept everything he said.

Time seemed to have slowed down as Shane cleared the streets with his best effort. He suddenly heard a familiar roar far away from the shelter walls, which reminded him immediately of the scaled lizard, while a loud screeching could be heard that echoed through the dark night.

‘Is that some kind of a sick joke?’ Shane cursed in his mind when he remembered the crystal feathered eagles at the hillside far away from their shelter….

‘Do we have to face a ground and aerial attack at the same time?` He started to wonder as he heard multiple crossbows and bow shots swishing through the air as it drowned the screeching within the sky.

The most unfortunate fact was that it was currently nearing midnight. Only the faint moonlight would provide any illumination to the vast landscape that was soon going to turn into a battlefield.

Only the shelter itself was brightly lit up while Shane hoped that the military was at least smart enough to construct countermeasures against such a simple issue.

Shane had been confident in humanity’s military due to Uncle Lars’ teachings.

However, this confidence began to waver when he noticed that their soldiers couldn’t even read a simple mana fluctuation in the long-range radar. What annoyed him more was that the radar had been a simple one as opposed to the ones with several upgrades and modifications installed to enhance its efficiency.

However, his opinions about the military improved slightly, when he noticed that a large white-yellowish mana circle spread out from the shelter’s center. It radiated a shining bright light as if it was emitting sunrays, brightening up the radius of the surrounding 1 kilometer like a clear sunny day.

Even though he wouldn’t approve the usage of the [Radiating Sun Magic-circle] in such a scenario, because of the excessive mana consumption, it was definitely better than fighting without being able to see anything.

The [Radiating Sun Magic-circle] was an expensive high-quality parchment with a magic circle inscribed on it. It was a one-time usage item, only used in perilous situations if a shelter’s existence was on the line.

Based on what Shane saw on the long-distance radar, this was not required. This was because the number of awakened beasts that he had seen on it was lower than that of the expert soldiers within the shelter.

At least, if the Inn owner’s intel was not wrong.

If they stalled enough, even the massive number of Wild and Elite-stage beasts would be completely useless.

But in the end, it was not his decision and he should rather be grateful that the soldiers in charge had decided to splurge instead of being stingy, which he would most likely be.

Once the alleys were cleared, the air was filled with the screams of beasts and humans alike, crying out in pain and agony. Meanwhile, the guards on the top and the shelter wall itself,  continued to get assaulted with all kinds of elemental attributed projectiles.

The guards retaliated the scaled lizards’ elemental attacks by raining arrows with their crossbows, bows, and ballistae, killing one low stage beast after another.

Unfortunately, the long-range weapons used by the guards were only effective against the majority of Wild and Elite-stage beasts while the awakened stage scaled lizards were able to protect themselves.

As such the main threat was still on their way towards the wall, while the crystal feathered eagles dived down from the sky in order to pick out guards that were about to reload their weapons.

To Shane, it seemed like the scaled lizards and crystal feathered eagles were able to work in sync even though they should have been enemies according to what he thought.

In order to receive resources, beasts, humans, and all other races were always at a war against each other. Apparently, both the scaled lizards and crystal feathered eagles had obviously used the same source in order to strengthen themselves or forcefully mutate their affinity.

As such the need of both races for elemental crystal caves should be extremely high, causing many clashes over their interest and most likely even a war…

This caused a simple question to form in Shane’s mind.

‘Why?’

‘Why are they attacking us humans, who barely entered the lesser thunder wolves territory? They are not even aware of our real combat prowess… What are they scared of?’

Shane wasn’t sure what exactly was going on, but it seemed like the guards had everything under control for the moment. Thus, he decided to climb over the rooftop of one of the largest Inn that was well above the height of the walls in order to observe the situation. After climbing up, he readied himself with his bow in one hand, while a Tier-1 rare quality arrow already nocked at the bowstring.

The top of the roof provided him a complete aerial view of the battleground below giving him a way to assess the situation clearly.

‘Most awakened beasts are further behind?? And why does the ratio between scaled lizard and crystal feathered eagles seem to be wrong? There are many more scaled lizards while I haven’t seen an awakened crystalized eagle attacking our defenses…’

There was only one possibility Shane could think of which caused him to feel helpless as a premonition began to form within him.

‘Please let me be wrong!’
