“Oh is that so? Good. Good. Bring them also over here.” Benan chuckled. “The more the merrier. We are building a fucking kingdom here after all.”
He flicked his wrist and took another puff as he watched Lu Chen and the others walk over to him, his eyes specifically lingering on the women.
“Hello. Hello. How are you guys doing? It’s been a crazy couple of days, right? I can see it on your face that you guys are all quite scared.” He dusted the cigarette and popped it back into his mouth, inhaling another big drag.
“You don’t need to worry though.”
“I mean… See… I am not trying to fool anyone here. You know very well that the apocalypse just started, but take a look at the setup we have going on.”
“All this in just 2 days.” Benan raised his fingers and gestured the number for dramatic effect.
Lu Chen nodded with a smile.
There was a dazed expression on his face as if he was listening to something awesome but inwardly he tried to gauge the strength of everyone in the room.
He knew that there were also other guards beside the ones who were standing in this room. The situation could get very troublesome if he didn’t deal with it properly.
While Lu Chen looked around, his eyes landed on the familiar figures standing on the other side of the room, Xu Meilin, Alex, and lastly… Nan Zhong.
The two women looked at him but their gazes didn’t linger long. They saw Lu Chen nod slightly and quickly looked away, but the third party continued looking at him.
Almost immediately, a sense of unease arose in his heart.
Qin Hua also realized this big issue at the same time Lu Chen did.
[Ah! That fat guy! I forgot about that fat guy!]
She suddenly remembered the worst leech of the group. The others might act as if they had never met Lu Chen but would he also do the same?
She knew that it was only seconds before everything turned to shit and Lu Chen was exposed.
She knew that Lu Chen was quite capable of handling himself but the thing that worried her the most was the guns some of the goons were carrying. Not to mention the mental ability user.
[Damn it. I need to attack that leader now. If I can take down that guy with the mental ability, the rest will be much easier.] She ground her teeth.
She glared at Nan Zhong who now had a big smile on his face. She had to admit it. Though the man was lazy, he was very shrewd.
He looked like he had also realized what was happening even though he might not have the whole story.
Qin Hua licked her canines as if she was preparing them for battle, watching his actions closely, but the man remained silent, continuing to patiently listen as well.
[Fucking fat time bomb. Grrrr.] She sneered.
Meanwhile, the boss of the group, Benan continued to spout a lot of narcissistic random nonsense which everyone patiently listened to, fear and nervousness etched on their faces.
Qin Hua almost lost her cool listening to him babble on and on especially when she knew that all of it was false. Everything that came out of his mouth was a lie.
So why was he putting so much effort? She racked her brain but couldn’t think of any possible reason.
Was he just simply fond of wasting time and tooting his horn? Maybe the slave thing that was going on required some sort of willing submission?
As she was deeply engrossed in this matter, suddenly a chill ran down her spine and she felt as if someone was directly looking at her.
She turned around here and there but didn’t see anyone.
The next instant, the air around the boss man twisted, and a lean young man popped out of thin air. [What the hell?] Qin Hua’s eyes bulged in surprise.
Another person also had stealth ability just like her and moreover, he did not look muscular like the other guys. Was this guy not under mind control?
While she was quietly thinking about this, the young man’s eyes coincidentally darted towards her, and he was looking straight into her eyes, meeting her gaze.
Qin Hua panicked. If her position right now was found out, the situation would have become extremely messy. Another fucking time bomb!
She didn’t quite have the confidence to be able to win against so many people even though Lu Chen was with her. It could become a messy brawl. There could be casualties and she didn’t want to risk anyone’s life, especially hers or Lu Chen’s.
But it didn’t look like she had any other choice left. Nan Zhong might not have snarked on them, but why should this random stranger help her out?
That too… She was a beast for god’s sake! In this bizarre apocalypse, why would anyone trust a beast!
Qin Hua bared her teeth, all prepared to fight, but to her surprise, the guy didn’t react at all. He simply nodded and once again returned to the conversation he was having with the so-called leader.
“Boss the outside is clear and everything is in order.” He gave his report as if nothing was out of place.
“Alright. Good job, Guan Ye.” Benan patted him.
Unlike how he addressed the others, there was a hint of respect and fear, when the scummy leader addressed him and Qin Hua observed this.
[Ah… He didn’t tell on me?] Her tongue rolled down, which she quickly pulled back up. [So this guy was some sort of secret patrol and he didn’t tell on me…]
She couldn’t help but come to the conclusion that this person might not be bad and perhaps even wanted to help them.….???
