Luo Xiao quickly noticed the envy and jealousy in the eyes of the younger generation, but he did not care much about what was in their minds. He understood their thoughts and also knew that it was natural for them to feel jealous and uncomfortable, so he did not blame them, but he still knew that he would have to be on guard for their actions, in case they suddenly wanted to act on their jealousy.
Gu Tianhu also noticed the fleeting envy from the rest of the group, but unlike Luo Xiao, he did not find it reasonable. Although he knew that these younger generation members were unaware of Luo Xiao’s true identity, they had to respect the Patriarch and his decisions.
Even if it would appear that Luo Xiao’s treatment was unfair, it was not something that was enough to question the authority his father showed, and even if special benefits and treatments had been taken out to provide the young man with a better life, it all came from their private wealth. It was not something that had made the family lose fortunes, or caused them to suffer.
As such, it was the personal business of the Patriarch, and no matter who wanted to interfere, they had no rights to do so. In a world like this, where strength was so important, the members of the family needed to respect their leader and follow his decisions to stay alive..
Although Gu Tianhu was a very responsible heir who treated the others well, he also understood that there was a certain hierarchy that could not be broken. This was also one of the reasons for his great admiration of Luo Xiao.
The Gu family was a vassal family of the Seventh Demon Prince, and now that they had been given the task of protecting Luo Xiao, he took this as his most important mission in life. He understood perfectly well who had allowed their family to become as powerful as it was now, and also knew that with these benefits, a certain responsibility followed.
It was also because of this that he took an extra glance at those that showed dissatisfaction so that he could keep an extra eye on them in the future. If they messed up, the Gu family might lose all their benefits and be replaced in the future.
Many undercurrents were moving as the group left the restaurant. All of them were seemingly happy and cheerful as they spoke with one another about various topics, but they also tried to dig traps and gain information from the others throughout the conversation.
Many of the younger generation did not know the exact situation in the different branch families within the Gu family, so they tried to know how many resources they each had to their disposal, and then they wished to compare it with their own situation, after which they would be able to know whether or not Luo Xiao was being treated better or worse than them.
ɴ[0)ᴠᴇʟ For some reason, a large group seemed to hope that Luo Xiao was treated worse than them, and their eyes were gleaming slightly with unhappy emotions as they thought of the wealth that had been displayed so far, not to mention the subordinates following him around.
“I still have to keep familiarizing myself with the city, so we will split up here.” Luo Xiao was getting tired of the numerous questions and inquiries that were masked as interest and careful consideration, so he simply decided to leave the group. Although he could get a bit of information with these people by his side, he was more at ease with having Huo Yu explaining and introducing the many places around him.
Gu Tianhu looked at Luo Xiao and noticed that he genuinely wished to leave the group, so when some of the younger experts wanted to retain him, he quickly put a stop to their actions and determined that the rest of them had to return back home. He, too, had to hurry back, as he needed to discuss the next actions of their family after what had happened on this day.
Luo Xiao noticed Gu Tianhu’s actions, but he did not blame him. In fact, the Gu Patriarch and son were both very good at what they were doing, and their reign over the family was also very good. If he had appeared in any other family in such a high profile manner, he was certain that it would not be as simple as some envy and jealousy.
As such, Luo Xiao did not care more, and continued to move around, examining the surroundings and getting introductions by Huo Yu of everything that he needed to know.
The rest of the day went by peacefully, and as the sun began to set, their group slowly returned to their home in the Gu compound.
The guards that were placed in front of the gate all lowered their heads as they noticed Luo Xiao’s arrival, and quickly opened the gates, allowing for him to easily enter the premises.
Luo Xiao could not help but raise an eyebrow in surprise as he witnessed this, and as they entered into the manor, he glanced quickly at Ye Chao, who vanished into thin air. Having the two Ye guards, Luo Xiao was very relieved and could not help but feel sweet in his heart as he knew that they were picked specially for him by Jiang Yao.
Huo Yu noticed the disappearance by one of the two guards, but he kept his face straight and pretended that nothing had happened, widened the distance between himself and Ye Feng a little in order to make the distance between himself and Luo Xiao more suitable, and suddenly, it seemed as if Luo Xiao had only brought two subordinates with him out, and not three.
Ye Feng could not help but raise an eyebrow when he noticed the clever action. It would appear that this young man had great potential, as long as he could keep his loyalty in place.
