Chapter 329 Scrambling For Fame (争名夺利)
Someone only appeared a long while after Jing Yun Zhao knocked its door. She handed them her invitation to them once they did, but with just one look, they revealed their surprise and hastily invited her in.
The inside of the villa was another world entirely.
Looking at it from the outside, it seemed no different from a regular house apart from its exceptional size. There were quite a number of trees planted around it too, so it didn’t look like it was anything special, but the interior was amazing.
High walls held the interior up and separated the villa into front and back yards, where she was brought into the latter. These rooms were all quiet and secluded, yet still refined and elegant. Still, it seemed like each room had been arranged to be assigned to different people, matching their invitations.
“Hold on, are you sure this isn’t a mistake? Why is she going to that room?” Jing Yun Zhao had only just arrived at her assigned room and hadn’t even tried to open its doors when someone brought this up.
On her way here, she had attracted the gazes of many. This was especially so once she reached the back yard, many people had to double-take.
She wasn’t dumb either and managed to figure out that there was a difference between the people who stayed in the frond and back yards.
“Her invitation had the drawing of licorice root, so I’m sure that this is the correct room,” her guide affirmed as his expression remained firm.
After, the person who had first spoken up obviously didn’t believe him and took the invitation from them to take a look himself. Only then was he appeased, despite still being suspicious, “You’re actually right, go in then…”
While Jing Yun Zhao had managed to figure out a few things, she still wasn’t clear on many things, so she didn’t bother to bicker with that person and entered her designated room.
She only realised what that person was going on about after she took a good look at her room.
On her way here, she could see the interiors of several rooms that had had their doors left open and managed to briefly see the exquisite decorations decorating them. However, those rooms were far from how hers were designed. A refreshing scent lingered here, and the size of it was definitely at least three to four times the size of the other rooms. It contained its own specialised central heating, storage room, bathroom, kitchen, and a large living room. Calling it a luxurious President’s Suite wouldn’t be too much.
This invitation was given to her by Old Man Xu, so this room was definitely prepared with him in mind.
Not much time passed before someone delivered her a meal and the food was surprisingly good.
As Jing Yun Zhao was enjoying this luxury, someone started gossiping in the meantime.
“Wasn’t the Licorice Root Room prepared for Elder Xu? Why did a kid like her show up?”
“Since when has Elder Xu showed up? The old man must have gotten into his age after moving to the borders of Ning CIty, right? This Medical Seminar was specially held here and we sent him an invitation every year, but he’s never acknowledged it. This year, he gave his invitation to someone else to represent him in this seminar, it can be considered a rare occasion…”
Unsatisfied, someone snorted disdainfully, “Even if Elder Xu didn’t come, he still shouldn’t treat our seminar as a place to play house, right? What’s his deal with letting a kid like her come? Even if she was his disciple, she’s still so young. Has she even graduated from her apprenticeship?”
JIng Yun Zhao’s hearing was scarily sharp and she also intended to know about the situation here, so she memorized everything those people had said.
Elder Xu had never told her the situation behind the invitation, only making her bring some medical herbs of good quality and some of her patented medicine and saying it was enough. In reality, she knew nothing about the rules here.
As long as there were people, there would be gossip, no matter the age difference and no matter the place. Jing Yun Zhao also wasn’t dumb enough to act ostentatiously everywhere she went, so she stayed in her own room contentedly till daybreak.
The next morning, someone finally sent her the instructional guides to this seminar.
Rather than calling it a seminar, it might as well be called a competition.
The people here were all Masters in making medicine and were knowledgeable about the different types of herbs under the skies. Coming from different corners of the world, some of them even had a reputation. Meanwhile, their purpose for attending was obvious. Putting it nicely, it was to make friends through the common topic of medicine. Putting it bluntly, they were each trying to scramble for fame.
