Chapter 9 – A Child from the Preceding Marriage (拖油瓶)
Learning medical knowledge was indeed hard for a newbie like Jing Yunzhao, a mere beginner. But on the bright side of things, at least all the information had been engraved into her brain. If she didn’t understand anything, she could just think of it and the explanation would naturally come to her.
Only a day passed in the outside world, but she had already been in her space for five days. After Jing Yunzhao had absorbed this piece of jade, she felt like her understanding had improved. In turn, her improvement was at a godly speed. At least she was no longer clueless about the properties of basic herbs.
Monday had arrived and it was time to go back to school.
Jing Yunzhao went to school with the Qiao siblings. The school they attended was one of the very best in Hua Ning county.
Jing Yunzhao lived in Ning Town, and within lived only a handful of students who could attend this school. Yet Jing Yunzhao had managed to enter with excellent grades. Don’t even mention paying for the school’s miscellaneous fees, she was even given a large sum of scholarship money. She was quite famous.
It took more than an hour to get to the county from the small town by car. For the whole journey, Jing Yunzhao wore a mask and her long hair was in a mess.
The clothes she wore were always Qiao Hongye’s unwanted clothing, there was never a need to hide it. (T/N: I’m assuming my own assumptions on what this sentence means because it’s a bit obscure)
Once they entered the school, people began to point and whisper.
Jing Yunzhao understood, however, that it was not because of her clothes, but because of what had happened after school two days ago when she was ‘hanging out’ with a bunch of hooligans.
She had just entered the classroom when someone taunted her, “Jing Yunzhao! The teacher wants you to visit her office before the test!”
Jing Yunzhao had already predicted it. In her past life, because of her upset stomach and Ye Qin’s passing, she had to quit school. As a result, she was never given the chance to explain herself, thus becoming a stain in her life.
In fact, her homeroom teacher actually cared for her and never believed Jing Yunzhao to be someone like that. When Jing Yunzhao tried to quit school, the teacher had tried to convince her otherwise. But the rumours in the town had already been spread far and wide. It was hard for others not to believe them.
Jing Yunzhao didn’t stay in the classroom and left for the office immediately.
Behind her were voices of mockery, degrading comments, and ironic insults.
“Tch, pretending to be noble and virtuous! Did you see it on Friday? She was getting real intimate with those hooligans! And I even heard that she had asked those hooligans to bully her sister!”
“But aren’t they sisters? It can’t be…”
“What do you know? Jing Yunzhao’s a child from her mom’s previous marriage. They don’t have the same dad! And just look at her! How does she act like an elder sister? Jing Yunzhao always leaves Qiao Hongye far behind whenever they take a test! I’ve never seen someone as shameless as her…” (FH: wtf so do you expect me to score badly so my sibling can score better than me for once? No way dude)
……
Jing Yunzhao had heard plenty of remarks like these before, and chose to act as if she did not hear them.
Because today was the day of the monthly test, the office was filled with students’ books. The teachers were also silent.
When Jing Yunzhao entered the office, some teachers secretly glanced in her direction,
Jing Yunzhao was in Class One. The homeroom teacher in charge was surnamed Jin (金). She wore a pair of glasses, had short hair, was neat, and overall looked capable and experienced. She was not very old, and was probably only about 28 or 29 years old.
When she saw Jing Yunzhao, Teacher Jin had on a complicated expression. She nudged her glasses into place and waved her hand to signal Jing Yunzhao over.
“Teacher Jin,” Jing Yunzhao greeted her respectfully.
Teacher Jin sighed, “Jing Yunzhao, do you know why I called you over?”
“I believe I do, but Teacher Jin, I also have something I want to tell you,” Jing Yunzhao replied and took off the mask from her face.
Only for Teacher Jin to see that one of her cheeks was red and swollen. With just one look, one could tell it was because of a slap.
Teacher Jin’s was startled, “What happened?!”
A student was assaulted all of a sudden? Who was it? How can this be allowed?!
