Starlight Necromancer Novel

Chapter 37 - Plan Of Action

“Yoo, morning…” Foster said, tiredly letting Octer and Lynol into his ro om early in the morning as he tied his hair up so that he didn’t have to deal with it right now. And after he put his hair up into a ponytail, Aster proceeded to use that part of his hair as a small nest, burrying himself inside of the pillar of hair.

Octer sat down on one of the chairs, seemingly quite tired himself, before he leaned back, “Alright, now, we gotta figure out what we’re doing next. Do either of you have any suggestions?” Octer asked.

Foster immediately shook his head, “You two make the choice, I don’t care at all… I literally don’t know what we even could do, besides meet up with that guy from the whatchamacallit guild…”

“Lost Sparrow.” Lynol added without a chance in his expression, “But nevermind that. Since we wanted to figure things out on our own, I suggest we help Foster sign up at the public guild and head into one of the beginner dungeons, and work our way up from there.”

“Yup, sounds like the best idea, honestly.” Octer agreed, as he tiredly started scratching his beard, “Did you hear anythin’ about the dungeons near this town, though?”

“There is the Tower, of course, but I’m not sure if that’s the best choice for now. Otherwise, I don’t really know anything about the dungeons near here, however.” Lynol explained as he closed his eyes in thought, all the whilst Foster was still completely confused about what they were even talking about.

“Guys, what the hell is a dungeon?” He asked with a wry smile, and both Lynol and Octer looked at him confused, “Wait, what? You didn’t even have dungeons over there?” Octer said in disbelief.

“…I can’t answer that question until you tell me what it is…” Foster said with a wry smile, and Octer sighed deeply, “Fair enough. Well… A dungeon is like… a place designated by the system as such? It’s hard to explain, because there’s like a shitton of different kinda dungeons… But the simplest way to describe it would be… some space that’s infested with monsters? Things like old labyrinths or mines… a lotta them have stuff like traps to be careful of, but they usually have some treasure in them, and like, a theme?”

Lynol rolled his eyes as he looked at Foster, “That’s a rough way to explain it, but that is basically it. At the center of each dungeon is a ‘Dungeon Core’. Nobody really knows how they come to be, but they simply pop up in those special places. Usually, that makes those places change to what they were earlier, and monsters and traps are usually created, repaired, and managed by the dungeon’s core itself. More often than not, they extend through space in a way that’s abnormal. I heard that they’re supposedly in a pocket dimension created by the Dungeon Core using the space they are placed into as a template.”

“…Alright, I guess?” Foster replied with a wry smile, “I’m not sure if I get it, but I guess so?” He said, thinking about the word some more. He didn’t know if that was really it before, but from what he could tell, it sounded a lot like the ‘Dungeon’ in games.

He never played those sorts of games too much himself, but he came across the term a couple of times before, at least, so he had a rough understanding of what it meant. But since he really didn’t know anything about the dungeons here in this world, he didn’t want to come to any conclusion about them just yet. He would wait until he saw them. If both Lynol and Octer said that they should gof or that, then it was probably fine.

“Alright, then let’s get dressed, eat something, and take care of everything we need to do for the day. ‘Cause, y’know… You and I have proper equipment, but…” Octer said while looking at Lynol, before slowly turning his head over to Foster, “But he really doesn’t, huh?”

“Wait, what do you mean? I’ve got my martial arts uniform, I have the gauntlets, some knives… and I’ve got a buncha… random bottles with liquid that I cannot identify. What else do I need?” Foster asked with a wry smile, and Octer grumbled quietly to himself as he walked up to the table, where Foster’s uniform was laid out. He grabbed it and took a closer look.

“Alright, this stuff ain’t good armor.” He said, burying his fingers in the cloth as he pulled to the sides, trying to rip it apart, “It’s just cloth. You’re a melee fighter, it’s not gonna protect you from anything. If ya were a normal mage, then maybe, but you’re just not.”

Foster was unamused as he looked at Octer, although he was expecting to be yelled at. Although, for some reason… The cloth wasn’t ripping. So, Octer put some more force into it. His muscles bulged under his shirt, until the cloth suddenly began to rip apart just so slightly.

“I’ll give you that, it’s stronger than it seems, but… It can still be just cut apart by a sword. And it definitely ain’t gonna protect ya from blunt damage.” He pointed out, continuing to rip the cloth apart, “Especially now that it’s broken. Seriously, just get some better armor than this. You can still keep it designed this way.” Octer explained to Foster, simply just worried about him getting seriously hurt during a fight, when Lynol looked at the martial arts uniform.

“Erm… Octer?” He said, pointing at the outfit. Octer turned his head, and looked back at it, seeing the cloth slowly mend itself back together as if nothing was ever wrong with it, “What the… That’s like a really weird feature…”

Foster rolled his eyes a bit as he walked up to his friend, grabbing the clothes from him, “Listen, this uniform was given to me by the guy whose legacy I took on… If a legacy is that special, then obviously this kinda thing is gonna be special too, right?”

“If a Legacy Holder gave this to you, why the hell can even I rip it apart?” Octer asked with a wry smile, when Lynol walked up to take a closer look, he simply shrugged, “In the end, we can just get armor that fits over this. If it can mend itself, it’s a pretty decent item to keep underneath. And clearly, it’s a magic item, so we could just bring it to an appraiser to see what else it can do. Because Octer is right, the martial arts uniform of a Legacy Martial Artist should be a lot tougher than this.”

“Well, as long as I can keep it, I don’t really care. I really like the look of it..” Foster said with a light smile on his face, as the party continued speaking about what they were going to be doing next.
