Luke ran around the block to make his temporary base stay a bit more secure for the night, but the more he killed the zombies, the more of them appeared. As if that wasn’t enough, some troublesome ones began to appear… and they weren’t humans.
“What the fuck is that…” Luke said while looking at a dog that seemed too big and had half of its face destroyed by something.
“The virus is starting to affect the animals of your world… that mutation level,” Rina replied while furrowing her eyebrows. “It seems some species of this world are highly compatible with the virus since they can grow this much.”
Luke didn’t know much about dogs, but he assumed that one had once been a rottweiler. Even without the zombification, it still would look pretty scary. Nevertheless, when the creature saw Luke, it dashed toward him like it had found the greatest meal around. Luke wasn’t willing to play, so he used Weapon Augmentation and fired two knives at the monster. However, the zombie dog actually bit one and got hit by the other.
Luke furrowed his eyebrows while he equipped his rapier and when the monster jumped toward him, Luke used Stinger and made his sword pierce the monster’s mouth. However, he didn’t hit the brain. So the beast still tried to reach him.
“No damage… zombies are really troublesome,” Luke muttered as the big zombie was pushing him backward.
Fortunately, the zombie couldn’t bite Luke, so he had some room to do some tests. He grabbed a stone from the ground and tried to activate Weapon Augmentation, but it didn’t work. Luke thought of using his fist, but if he ended up destroying it… with that image in his head, Luke changed his mind. In the end, Luke grabbed his other sword and made it pierce the monster’s head.

The challenge hadn’t been that difficult, but Luke was aware that he could only do so because of the advantage Weapon Augmentation gave him.
“You are too quiet Luke, you should feel more excited,” Shalia said. “This type of opponent isn’t something most humans could defeat.”
Luke was more worried about something else… What will happen if all animal life on the planet becomes zombies? Even if the human race survives, the planet will become… It was hard to imagine what would happen, but Luke was worried that he might not ever have a hamburger or barbecue again for the time being.
Those worries disappeared from Luke’s mind when he heard some gunshots in the distance. He also heard the sound of cars approaching, so he decided to hide and see what was going to happen inside one of the abandoned houses. After a couple of seconds, Luke saw some cars and armed people in the firing and hitting all the zombies they found. It was hard to tell due to the smoke, but Luke felt like they looked like thugs, and despite that, a cop was with them.
“Hahaha, leveling up using firearms is too easy… in the blink of an eye, we can become the strongest of the city.” A dark-haired man who had the tattoo of a dragon on his left arm said while grinning.
That guy was too loud, but thanks to that, Luke managed to understand the mood of that group. They sure were enjoying themselves…
“See? People can only feel accomplished when they act to their heart’s content,” Shalia said.
“If you ask me, that guy looked like he isn’t right in his head,” Rina said.
“I guess we should be glad that no one asked your opinion,” Shalia said.
Luke wasn’t the best person to judge others in that situation. After all, he almost said many times in the last few hours: fuck them! Exp all the way! Yahoo! Still, the smell of death and the chaos prevented him from getting too carried away. Nevertheless, Luke decided to take a break at his home and drink some water. While he had some extra energy, all that was moving around was making him thirsty. Much to his surprise, he saw that the surroundings of his area had even more corpses than he remembered and more survivors as well. Amanda had found some allies and was hunting zombies with them. Luke recognized them as the girl he had helped before and her grandparents.
“It seems someone is acting behind your back, Luke,” Shalia said.
“I am not! I thought that he was just too busy and that he wouldn’t care if I made them work together,” Rina said.
“You are right, I don’t care,” Luke said. “But you should inform me this kind of thing anyway, just to avoid some surprises.”

While Luke was heading to his home, he checked the results of hunting for half of the afternoon. Leveling up was starting to get hard. The number of zombies was high, but it wasn’t as high as it was supposed to consider that he was in a residential area. That was good and bad, good because the number of corpses without region wouldn’t make things too unpleasant late, but bad because it limited his leveling up speed. Fortunately, Luke got two mana potions in those three hours. Maybe he could use them and hunt some bosses…
“I didn’t you mention that the more you kill monsters, the higher is the chance of you attracting a big one?” Luke said as he approached.
“No, you didn’t,” Amanda said. “But you said that leveling up is important.”
“Well, I said now… consider yourself warned,” Luke shrugged.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t time for jokes. Luke began to feel the ground trembling, and that was the sign of another big creature approaching. It looked like he was finally going to have some action again, but Amanda and the dark-haired girl didn’t look that amused and were slowly stepping back.
“The monster will find us if we try to hide, might as well fight the beast instead of letting it destroy our houses,” Luke said.
