Chapter 765: And Axe and an Arm
President Tan had witnessed her reject Elder Xu and several other Cabinet Elders before. Now, he considered it nothing short of a delight to see an enemy being given the same treatment.
He was sure it would be much more exhilarating than the other past instances.
He couldn’t wait to see Elder Nie’s sullen face!
Thinking of this, President Tan almost broke into giggles again. Thankfully, he was able to stop himself at the last minute. Instead, he opened his mouth and said:
“You sure are eloquent, Old Man. You say that your Green Cloud Pavilion will be taking over the Cabinet in the future, and yet this is all you’re capable of—kidnapping unsuspecting victims and launching attacks out of the Cabinet’s eyes. It’s plain to see that you’re all bluster! It’s not a very effective tactic, I must say. Even the small sects from the countryside are better than you!”
As expected, Elder Nie’s face morphed into an expression of rage. His eyes widened, and his nostrils flared.
He pointed a finger at President Tan and said, “Where did you even come from, you nincompoop? This conversation is between me, a grand elder, and this little girl over here. Who do you think you are to butt in? Keep talking, and I’ll have your teeth knocked out in a blink of an eye!”
He was so furious that steam practically came out of his ears.
Behind him, his henchmen began to feel restless.
“Why?” President Tan retorted. “Did I say anything wrong, huh? You’re just a bunch of clowns!”
He truly loathed them, these people who were only brave enough to attack when they were at full advantage. And now, they were even brazen enough to steal his disciple away.
They were barbarians, and President Tan was itching to teach them some manners.
At that point, the bearded man seemed to be at the end of his rope as well. He glanced at Elder Nie, and when the old man showed no signs of stopping him, he grabbed his axe and lunged for President Tan.
“See if I don’t chop off your arm! You will soon know the consequences for insulting the Green Cloud Pavilion!”
His rough voice was grating as he loomed closer and closer to President Tan.
Chauffeur Wang was so frightened that his knees buckled under him.
This burly man was the Viper’s right hand. He was known for carrying an axe in lieu of a gun, and many people had fallen beneath his blade, either lifeless or limbless.
President Tan was shocked at the sudden attack, but he didn’t regret anything he had just said.
He had met all sorts of people over the years. So what if he lost an arm? He never did anything wrong in his life. If he gave in now, his name wouldn’t be Tan Xian.
With his lips pressed into a thin line, he squared his shoulders and stood his ground.
A sinister smile appeared on Elder Nie’s face.
‘Good, good! Let’s see how far your arrogance takes you.’
He was only polite to Yao Tang, and for good reason. To think that her companions had the audacity to treat him like a pushover… he would give them a taste of the Green Cloud Pavilion’s power today.
But his smile quickly disappeared.
In the next second, a short, piercing sound rang out on the highway.
Whish!
Before anyone could figure out what was happening, a man’s mournful wail filled their ears, followed by the heavy thud of the axe’s blade as it embedded itself into the ground.
“Ah! My arm! Who… How did this happen?!”
The bearded man was clutching his broken arm as he swayed where he stood. His face was devoid of color, and beads of cold sweat were dripping down his chin.
He didn’t know which bastard was brazen enough to attack him.
And they had succeeded, too!
When he finally managed to catch his breath, he noticed that Yao Tang was just a few steps away from him. Her cold eyes stared straight into his, and he felt a shiver run down his spine.
His voice died in his throat.
He suddenly had a very keen understanding that if he made a single wrong move, his head would be sliced clean off his shoulders.
Elder Nie was aghast.
Yao Tang had disposed of all those goons earlier. Initially, he thought that those worthless men were simply weak for being unable to handle a young girl.
But now that he had seen it with his own eyes, he realized that Yao Tang was even more extraordinary than he had ever imagined.
Even the fiercest warrior under him had fallen in her hands.
Elder Nie was mortified.
No, he was utterly humiliated!
Worst of all was that none of them had even seen Yao Tang move. The fact left a bitter taste in his mouth.
“You brat! How can you be so impulsive? You’ve offended our guest!”
Elder Nie’s rebuke was addressed not to Yao Tang, but to the bearded man.
He made it look like the man had acted of his own volition, thereby washing his hands clean of the sudden attack.
The bearded man was left with no choice but to lower his head and own up to his blunder. He cradled his limp arm and shuffled back behind Elder Nie.
Elder Nie turned to President Tan with a serious expression. “You’re just an ordinary member of the association. You were only promoted to Branch President because of some paltry achievements you’ve made in City A. Who are you to speak to me in such a manner?”
After bringing up the matter of position and power, Elder Nie looked particularly imposing.
