PRECAP
“What do you mean??”
“They are having their first child in a month…in a MONTH!!! And you decided to keep that away from me…??? Why???”
Thea yelled and it was a huge blow to Valeria. She was so much shocked that she had forgotten to breathe until she heard that the child was due in a month…
“I had thought….fuck!!! It does not even matter now anymore…does it??”
Thea mockingly asked and sat down on the nearby sofa, defeated. For the first time, she felt like she was not going to get that one thing…one man she ever liked so much when all her life, she was used to getting what she ever wanted.
“I did not…I had no idea until now…that my nephew had impregnated that woman again…”
Valeria let out, cluelessly. When she had thought that this chapter was over for good only to find that it only gotten more deeper.
________________________________________________
Just another usual day, strolling in the park.
It had become a routine for Drake to accompany the two very pregnant ladies in the nearby neighbourhood park for regular morning walks.
Beth and Tinsley were sitting on the green grass, feeling the cold fresh breeze of the morning.
Drake was only a foot or two away from them, looking around. He was ready with their bags of necessity, everywhere they would go.
“I like the mornings so much!”
It made Tinsley tilt her head and look at Beth. Beth’s eyes were staring at the horizon, with a dreamy gaze.
“Because it’s the starting of a brand new day…you know? It excites me to know how my day would go and end…And the ending would make me wonder about the starting of the next day again on the bed!”
Beth stated and smiled at her own words. Tinsley was very silently listening to her…those words were deep and carried even deeper meanings.
“My mother used to like the mornings!”
Beth never talked about her parents and her childhood and it got Tin’s attention as she listened to the narration with utmost vigilance.
“I never understood why…only because I never could wake up as early as her.
Not to forget, it annoyed me as she would roam around the house, making noises, breaking my precious sleep.”
Beth giggled, remembering those old days and it made Tin to wonder about hers.
They were of course not in the same situation. She had never seen her mother, Marshally Rutherford waking up in the morning for she would be too tired to do so after attending night long rich parties.
Marshally’s presence was a rare occurrence at the breakfast table when Anna Maria would be feeding her all by herself and her father would drop by only for his cup of coffee and leave for work.
That was how Tin had grown up. She would never know what it was like to have a mother roam around the house in the morning, getting her household ready for a brand new day.
“And when I became a teenager, I never understood her logic of being happy for reliving the same day over and over again…there was nothing special about it.
Everything was always the same day until when I broke apart from Jeff, I started seeing the coming days in a totally different view…a brand new day!”
Beth smiled. Tinsley returned the smile. She could see that the old memories were for some reason surfacing on the shore of thoughts of Beth.
“And being pregnant…I could understand now why my mother did what she did…A mother has to make her entire household to look forward to a brand new day…it was not about just her…”
Motherhood could change women for a better perspective…that their lives carry so much more meaning than they seemed to be.
“Can we make a promise today?”
Beth dropped it out all of a sudden and all this while, when Tin was mute, she opened up her lips for the first time.
“And what that would be?”
“That we will not let our girls go through the same shits we went through!”
Beth said and poked into Tin’s evergreen eyes. And waited for Tin to reply…say anything.
“If we let our girls go through it then we will be a joke of a mother!”
Tin remarked and that made both burst out in a fit of laughter. Meanwhile, Drake stood, ideal, wondering what was so funny about a fuzzy cold morning.
When Beth turned to look at Drake and their eyes matched, her laughter intensified. For the poor man had no inkling of any kind, what was going on.
“We should seal this promise with something.”
Tin proposed and Beth was quick to agree.
“A vanilla ice cream!”
And it was all it took, for Drake to run outside of the park and buy two fresh vanilla cones with two scoops of vanilla toppings as requested by both the ladies.
“Why is it taking him so long?”
Tin argued. Ice cream was her favourite and even the wait to have it killed her inner craving self.
“He is here…he is here!”
Beth pointed out and they both smiled, holding their ice cream cones as they started licking around the toppings.
“I m scared…”
Beth let out and Tin could understand her in one go. Who was not to become a mother for the first time?
“I m terrified too!”
Tinsley joined in and both looked into the eyes of each other, afraid, clueless as they both headed towards this unknown journey of motherhood together.
Tinsley was glad to have someone like Beth to accompany her on a journey like this. She could not have wondered to go through all of these all by herself.
When it got too much chilly, they both decided to return back home. Drake closed the door behind him as the two women walked inside the small studio house.
Tinsley was quick to open her coat and hang it on a hanger and kick out her feet off the sports shoe. Drake bought the ones without laces for both of them and easy to put in and wear off. Kian had custom ordered them from a leading brand.
Beth followed in too. She pulled her coat off and was about to hang it up when she felt a strict pain in her lower abdomen.
She nudged it off when the pain subsided after a brief second. She held onto the table on the corner as she felt another wave of pain, hitting her right on the below.
“Ahhh!! Ouch…”
She moaned out and looked at the front in the living room and found Tin nowhere, meaning she had gone to the bathroom to freshen up and Drake was in the kitchen, preparing their breakfast.
She closed her eyes and let breaths out in a series of numbers as the trainer in their yoga class had taught them to do so.
They both had been attending the yoga classes for pregnant women upon the request of their Ob Gynaecology and when Drake had reported it to Kian, he was quick in signing both up in fancy yoga lessons for the pregnant women…only the wealthy could afford.
At first, they both would do yoga watching the YouTube tutorials and now after Drake’s interference, they had to move their asses to attend the real yoga lessons.
Beth’s hold at the ends of the table got tighter as the pain started kicking in repeatedly and she could not hold in any longer.
She let out a small mewl of pain and it got Drake’s attention. He was quick to interrogate.
“Are you fine there, Miss Gomez?”
Beth did not respond right away but after a while, she nodded her head, giving him a sweet smile amidst of the pain, looking in his way for a millisecond.
“I m fine, Drake…and for the nth time, I m…Bethany!”
She gritted her teeth as she felt the cramps covering all of her womb. She was aware of the fact that this kind of cram would become a common thing since her due date was almost nearer…the next week.
“You do not look fine at all, Miss Gomez!”
Drake voiced out after a while, once again, checking up on her, still standing on her same spot, holding onto the table ends, hitting on her lips, trying not to scream out in pain.
“These…these are normal cramps!”
She let out, in gaps. She was a first-timer and could not pinpoint the difference between the day to day cramps and the ones that initiate or give signals to thee starting of the labour period.
“Do you need me to come there and help you??”
Drake implored and came out of the kitchen, ready to carry the woman if needed.
“No…no! I m fine!!”
And then the water poured out of her from nowhere, shocking both of them in one go.
“You definitely not fine!”, Drake concluded.
