Hao Xuan nodded, “Go with him.”
She stepped back alongside Max as Lord Yami’s figure floated into the air. The space trembled around him while he fell back to the ground and disappeared within, but the next moment he came back out like a pendulum completely transformed.
He was almost double his previous size and adorned in a spotless white long coat. His new body appeared to have been pieced together by combining countless metal shards in the shape of a human being.
At first glance he seemed to be wearing a giant armor set but that was not the case. This is what his Astral Form looked like. It was humanoid but completely inorganic, immune to the effects of time. (Image posted in authors notes and in discord)
“Let us take our leave,” his voice came through two small metal openings around the chin.
With a wave of his hand, a 2-meter-wide golden rune materialized out of thin air and surrounded Max and Claudia, creating a barrier that then became smaller and smaller until it was just 2 inches long.
He took the shimmering golden ‘vial’ of a barrier and inserted it into a slot on his belt for safekeeping before floating up and out of the bridge.
He turned into a comet and shot in the eastern direction leaving behind an obvious trail of golden particles that could be followed.
The surroundings started to get dark again even before his light had dissipated since Elder Taisi’s spell returned at full force.
“We will continue moving forward, follow me,” Baba Jezda turned around and floated ahead.
Hao Xuan was about to follow when he felt Elder Illya’s hand on his back and once again all the light vanished as they immediately moved faster and faster.
With gritted teeth, he had to solely focus on creating a barrier around himself because even with Elder Illya’s protection, Hao Xuan could feel his skeleton trying to slip out of his body.
It was a terrible feeling of not being in control of his own body. With closed eyes, Hao Xuan began empowering the spiritual threads with more potent soul power and wrapping them around himself to create a cocoon.
He had no tangible spiritual energy to speak of anymore nor the meridians to store any so the raw soul power was the only thing he could actually depend on and thankfully, there was more than enough of it.
And Hao Xuan had no idea how long he had been in that state when he was forcefully pulled out of the stupor by a defeating explosion.
He felt the space solidify before they came to a full stop. He opened his murky eyes to realize that they had been surrounded from all sides by glowing figures.
There were dozens of them, all beings of pure white light exuding magnificent auras that burned his eyes if he looked at them for a second longer than necessary.
The space had come alive! Overflowing with countless indescribable sounds that only expressed themselves in tones of strange musical notes to his ears.
Baba Jezda and Elder Illya were sandwiching him while she tried to talk to them. Her mouth moved but he could not pick up any words. They were communicating via a medium that was out of his reach as of yet but he did not need to understand what was being said since the results were pretty obvious.
The auras of the figures of light began to intensify while their lights congregated above them. They were getting ready to attack- or rather, finish it in one attack.
Baba Jezda let out a sigh, “So be it,” and gave Elder Illya a nod.
“By the Nine,” she whispered and suddenly pushed Hao Xuan away.
Both of their figures teleported almost a kilometer away in an instant but that was still not enough to be out of range of whatever attacks that were being prepared.
“I can still feel the weight of their auras on my shoulder, we should get further before it’s too late!” Hao Xuan urged but Baba Jezda was unbothered.
“There is nowhere to escape,” she coldly replied, “Their abilities will target you no matter where you go.”
“Then what?”
“But if they cease to exist, it stands to reason their powers will also vanish, no?” she let out a smile while gesturing towards them, “Watch! That is a real servant of the Nine! Someone who has spent an eternity in servitude to something greater than them.”
Her voice fell making him think that she was actually sad for a moment.
Hao Xuan turned towards the blinding lights and with some effort, he could see scenes with a lot more clarity. The light became brighter and brighter until it looked like the actual sun had been summoned on the bridge.
The pressure also increased accordingly, filling him with a sense of awe and exuberance even though it was trying to take his life.
