Amaira was still in a daze and subconsciously, she tapped on the dial button when the call went through. She gained consciousness when the sound of a ringing entered her ears.
Her eyes were wide as saucers when she noticed the number she currently called and was ready to hang up but unfortunately her luck didn’t favor her.
“Hello? Amaira?” The deep husky voice from the other side made her feel the hair on her back rising straightaway. Goosebumps appeared on the entire hand due to the cold yet intimidating voice of Ryan.
“H..Hey.. did I Disturb you?” She asked him with utmost cautiousness, unsure if he will reply back to her question with a positive attitude or as usual, will ignore her as always?
Predictably, the other side was in deep silence. Ryan didn’t reply to her and as usual, her heart went down in sorrow. ‘He never answers.. why did I even think he will this time?’ This was a joke on her behalf for keeping one-sided expectations.
“Ryan? Are you listening?” She asked once again, although the conflict was going on between her mind and heart there is no answer.
Disheartening, Amaira was going to keep the phone down when suddenly, she heard his voice once again, “No, you didn’t. What happened? Calling so late?” He was sweet, as she gained her faint smile back on her face.
“Well… I was thinking if you can help me meet… Brother Javier once. It has been so long since we had a conversation with peace.” Somehow she found the lame excuses on the spot. It was evident that he doesn’t hold the power to make her meet her brother yet to keep the conversation alive, she lied to gain his attention.
]As expected, Ryan replied, “Your brother will not meet you. You are very well aware of his feelings as well, Amaira. Don’t push your heart too hard. In the end, you will probably sink deeper into the water.”
His words sent a clear indication in her direction. It was now upon her, whether she can honestly accept the reality that was harshly thrown over her face. It wasn’t as easy as others made it look, at the end of the day, she was their sister, despite not being fully blood-related but still, she is the Johnson princess…
Taking a deep breath, Amaira lifted her eyes to look at the stars in the sky, “I see… then, can we both meet if not brother? We too.. haven’t talked.. si-“
“I work at Amaira. I’m here at work as well so it would be better if we keep our distance and stop getting involved with each other. Distraction isn’t good for either of us.” Before she would have even competed for her wordings, he made it quite clear to her that he won’t make any efforts to meet her
Not only to meet, but she also guessed that he doesn’t wish to see her face as well. He got himself a new girlfriend, as far as she heard from the rumors. He too spent nights in the clubs.. and those harems…
Amair hanged up after hearing his answer without responding. She was plagued with a painful and heavy heart. Why did it hurt so much to her? She isn’t even so big in her life, hasn’t met the outstanding man in her states yet she is feeling bad for mere rejection? By whom? By no one but convincing was too hard for her.
All the thoughts of the past, all the memories, and recalling her mistakes, drove her to the bay of crying. Ryan… it was hard to remove this name. How was she supposed to handle the hatred of every single person now?
With a small smile playing on her face, her eyes turned red, trying to hold back the tears. She can’t remember if she has cried too much due to the breakdown ever in her entire lifespan of at least nineteen years.
“God… just send an angel… I.… can’t handle the hate anymore with me.”
….
At the same, Jennfier kept on changing sides on the bed. The sleep was nowhere in her mind with only tension and uneasiness.
God knows what was keeping her so much distracted from sleeping, which she found hard to get. Closing her eyes, all she saw was the man’s face who was at this point sleeping outside on the couch.
Pulling a blanket flower to her figure, Jennifer shut her eyes once again and was ready to go back to sleeping but this time too, all she witnessed was Javier. Her worry about how he must be sleeping on such a small couch? His body is already so big, how can he manage to do so?
Moreover, this was his bedroom. Occupying his bed entirely was making her feel half-hearted. This wasn’t how she is.
In the end, she sat on the bed and all that came into her sight was darkness. To have some peace of mind, Jennfier switched on the night lamp and tapped her face to remove all the sweat she was feeling.
‘Maybe because this is a new place… I must be finding it difficult to sleep because of that..’ God knows if that was true or just a mere way to convince her.
Finding the jar of the glass empty beside her, she made her way out of the bedroom to refill it but found the man lying on the couch with his eyes closed.
Her tense gaze fell on the bewitching face of his which not only made her lose her concentration but also get lost in his eyes. Fortunately, his eyes were closed. All that she saw was his peaceful smile yet, there was some distress added to it.
“It must have been difficult for him to sleep here..” a sigh escaped from her lips when she realized that his eyebrows were knitted into a frown.
‘Is he in some kind of bad dream? Nightmare?’ She wasn’t fully sure either but asking the same might seem rude.
For minutes her gaze lingered at his face but then it moved to his legs which were coming out of the entire couch. With his height, it was surely uncomfortable for him to sleep there and his psychic can’t be fitted in such a small place.
Her lips formed into a thin line when she gave the suggestion a deep thought, ‘Shall I ask him to come and sleep beside me?’
