Chapter 8 – Even a randomly selected pair of strangers would have a closer relationship than this married couple (2)
Originally, she hadn’t wanted to get married or experience the pain of childbirth. But, it wouldn’t be bad to become a wealthy, single mother.
Ruan Xia looked around the original Ruan Xia’s parents’ home. She had thought things through. If Mr. Song’s fate remained unchanged, she would move back home with her kid. Living here, she wouldn’t have to worry about meals. She would also get childcare help. She was sure that Father Ruan and Mother Ruan would be very happy with her decision too.
Just like, she came to a pleasant decision!
—
Once they finished eating later that afternoon, Ruan Xia took Little Wang with her. Father Ruan and Mother Ruan reluctantly parted with them.
Sitting in safety seat, the chubby kid suddenly remarked, “Mom, you seem different today,”
Ruan Xia was momentarily stunned, but she quickly recovered her calm.
Even if she made lots of mistakes or acted very differently than before, no one would make the connection that the soul in this body had changed.
The original Ruan Xia wasn’t close to anyone. Even after an afternoon’s worth of interaction, her parents merely thought she had come around. Other thoughts didn’t occur to them. Should she feel bad for the original Ruan Xia or appreciate her own good fortune?
“What’s different?” asked Ruan Xia.
“You never hugged me before,” the chubby kid started to complain, “and you never took me out to play either.”
It must have been hard on this child. Despite his mother’s long-term neglect, he was still a lively and cheerful child. Ruan Xia thought; part of this was probably due to his innate personality, and the other part was from Father Ruan, Mother Ruan, and Mr. Song’s efforts.
He was still a kid, so there was a lot of stuff that he wasn’t old enough to comprehend. Even though he knew his mother was cold to him, she was still his mother. Children naturally loved their mothers.
Ruan Xia thought about her own childhood. She had been left with her grandparents and raised by them. Before she had started elementary school, she would eagerly look forward to her parents’ visits. Every time her parents came over, she would be super clingy towards her mother. After she started elementary school and as she was able to comprehend more, she gradually became estranged from her parents.
Fortunately, little Song Shuyan wasn’t even four-years-old yet. In addition, he had his grandparents and father’s love, so there wasn’t a dark shadow in his heart. If Song Shuyan was a little bit older, Ruan Xia was sure that it wouldn’t be so easy to win him over.
Thinking of this, Ruan Xia said with a smile, “I was wrong before. I’m sorry. Is that okay?”
Song Shuyan maintained an image of aloofness for a scant few seconds, which was followed by a big grin. “I forgive you. As long as you don’t make this mistake again.”
… This kid.
—
After they got home, she got the idea to use the little kid for her plan. Ruan Xia didn’t know much about Mr. Song, so it would be better to have Song Shuyan act as the middle person.
After giving him a bath, she picked him up and brought him to the bedroom. Once she felt that she had done enough to get the chubby kid into a good mood, she finally asked, “Can you help me with something?”
“Sure!”
“We’re going to take a plane tomorrow to see dad, but mom hasn’t said anything about this to dad yet. How about you call dad and tell him?”
She knew that the original Ruan Xia and Mr. Song didn’t have a good relationship. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say their relationship was at a freezing point. The two of them avoided seeing and talking to each other as much as possible. They were like strangers to each other.
Now that she wanted to go see him, she definitely had to give him advance notice. But, she wasn’t sure if he would be happy to see her. Besides, it would feel so awkward if she called him. If it was Song Shuyan that asked, then Mr. Song definitely wouldn’t be against the visit.
Ruan Xia just wanted to save Mr. Song and didn’t want to be misunderstood.
“Okay!”
“Do you remember dad’s phone number?” Ruan Xia asked. Of course, she had Mr. Song’s contact information. She was purely teasing the child by asking this question.
