Yvonne looked down at her feet and just stared at them blankly.
‘Are the drug’s effects not over yet?’ She crouched down and touched her feet.
She then stood back up and looked around.
The bed that she was on looked higher than usual and she had just noticed that everything looked so big and strange.
‘Did I shrink or get teleported to Lilliput?’ She chuckled at her joke and looked at her surroundings.
As she was looking around, she heard footsteps once again so she quickly hid behind the bedside table.
“Where is she? She’s not on the bed!” Yvonne heard a woman’s soft voice choke when the footsteps entered the room.
“She was just here, my lady.” The woman who had picked Yvonne up earlier spoke in a panicked voice and then moved towards the bed.
‘Don’t come here! I need to get out of here!’ Yvonne closed her eyes and bent her head to avoid being caught.
“Find her this instant!” She heard a man’s loud and booming voice and this startled her, causing her to yelp loudly.
“I found the miss!” That auburn-haired woman swiftly picked up Yvonne and carried her away.
‘Fucking Hell! Will they put restraints on me now?’ Yvonne thought of what they would do to stop her from escaping and then looked at the people who were trying to catch her.
She saw a tall and muscular man who looked like a giant standing beside a petite and beautiful woman whose head only reached his shoulders.
‘Why are such gorgeous people in such a bad line of work?’ Yvonne just gazed at them with her eyes wide open.
“Vonny baby? Why are you looking at mommy like that?” The petite woman came forward and carried her away from the other woman.
‘Vonny? Mommy? Who is this delusional woman?’ She gaped at the woman who was now hugging her for dear life.
“Are you trying to choke me, woman? Get away!” Yvonne shoved her away and after creating a distance from her, she glared at her.
“Vonna! That is no way to talk to your mother!” The man reprimanded her in a strict tone.
‘Mother? My parents died in a car crash when I was 10, but I still remember their faces and this woman is NOT my mother!’ Yvonne harrumphed haughtily.
She then faced the man and tilted her head.
“What mother? And who exactly are you?” She questioned him and his face turned from anger to anxiety.
Instantly she heard the woman carrying her sobbing in a loud voice.
“Ray, please calm down.” The mountain-like man softly held Yvonne in his arms and hugged the sobbing woman.
“Go get the family physician!” He then barked out an order to the auburn-haired woman and she quickly scurried away.
“Vonna? Why do you say that you do not know me? I am your father.” He gently caressed her cheek with his strong and calloused thumb as he sat down on the bed with her on his lap and the woman beside him leaning in his embrace.
‘Father? What is this ‘Luke, I’m your father’ moment happening here?’ She rolled her eyes at him.
‘Is this some kind of new scam to take away my inheritance? Did those stupid branch family elders hire these two actors to act as my parents? How dumb do they think I am?’
She looked into his eyes and folded her hands over her chest.
“Look here, Mister! I do not know who you are but you most certainly are not my father!” She scowled at him and saw a painful look flash in his eyes.
Looking at his pained eyes, Yvonne felt like someone had gripped onto her heart tightly which made her feel like she was suffocating.
“Vonna I’ll buy you that pony, so please don’t behave this way!” He pleaded with her and looked at the woman beside him and she too eagerly nodded her head.
“We’ll buy you the entire stable if you want.” She added.
Before Yvonne could answer them, there was a knock on the door and that woman was now back with an elderly man who walked in with a cane supporting him in one hand and a big briefcase in the other.
“Mr. Toone, quickly come and check on Yvonne. She’s been acting weird after she woke up.” The man holding her hurriedly commanded the old man.
‘Who’s acting weird?’ She glared at the man who was claiming to be her father.
“Please place her on the bed so that I might diagnose her properly.” The old man who looked like a doctor spoke and she was gently placed on the bed.
The man hugged the crying woman in his arms and took a few steps back while the auburn-haired woman stood at a distance with worry apparent in her eyes.
‘Is the doctor clean? Or is he in on this act with these kidnappers?’ She wondered and thought of testing her luck.
“Doctor, can you help me out? I think I’ve been kidnapped.” She whispered to the old man.
The old man was first confused and then let out a chuckle.
“Doctor? But my name is Mr. Denver Toone.” She heard the old man introduce himself as he placed his hand over her forehead.
“The doctor doesn’t know what the word doctor means! Which backward land did they bring me to?” She mumbled and shook her head.
“But I can help you out if you answer a few of my questions.” He spoke seriously and this finally caught her attention.
“Sure.” She nodded her head and gestured for him to begin.
Amusement was written all over his face when he saw how she behaved.
“May I know what your name is?” He asked and Yvonne looked at him like she was seeing an idiot.
‘They don’t know the person they kidnapped?’ She chuckled and humored him.
“My name is Yvonne St. Claire.” She huffed at the end of her sentence, absolutely proud of her name and status.
The couple standing at the end of her bed took a sigh of relief when they heard her.
‘So they wanted clarification to know whether they kidnapped the correct person huh?’ She sneered at them and then faced the old man.
“Do you know who these two people might be?” He pointed at the mountain man and the petite woman who looked at her with anticipation.
“No, I do not.” She plainly said and the man named Toone nodded his head.
Yvonne heard sniffles and when she looked up she saw the woman sobbing into the man’s arms.
‘Geez, she’s going to wet his shirt.’ Yvonne frowned but then paused and looked at everyone in the room.
Because she was being passed around from one person’s arms to another like some rag doll, she had not noticed what they were wearing.
But now she had a clear look at their clothes.
‘What’s with those old-timey clothes?’ She wondered.
The auburn-haired old woman wore a bland dark brown long gown with her hair covered with those hats that only maids in old movies wore.
The petite woman was wearing a much more fashionable pink frilly layered gown whereas the man dressed like some lord from historical times.
He wore fitted black trousers with a pure white shirt and a black coat that reached his calves.
“Can you tell me what was the last thing you remember before you fell asleep?” She heard Mr. Toone speaking and looked at him.
He had a notepad in his hand and was writing down everything she said.
‘A monocle, seriously? He looks like a snob in those.’ Yvonne commented when she saw what her “doctor” who did not know what doctor meant was wearing.
