Die? Since this bloody incursion started even before he became as renowned as he has become, death has been knocking on his door and following him every which way. In all those times Cole has never laid down and let people walk over him or let death have its way and embrace him for all eternity.
Death was rapidly becoming an old companion of Cole, and he was not scared of it. He was pseudo Christian, those who live by the sword had to die by it. What goes around come around, but not today, not today. 𝘦.𝘤𝘰𝑚
“Arghhhhhhhhh!”
At the moment there wasn’t much Cole could 5o fight back, he was poisoned and injured, no to mention the poison was running roughshod through his body. This dance between him and Azrael had probably hit the climax, he wasn’t sure. But he did not want to lose.
Azrael developed a look of fury on his face as he rushed forwards and smashed his knee into Cole’s face. But poisoned, injured and on his last legs, Cole still attacked. This new level and state of power after hundred was all about being able to understand your skills and use your head. Kinetic was not all about movement to developed power, it had as much attacking applications as it had escaping and defensive ones.
The knee smashed into Cole’s jaw, but his body was not blasted back. Every last smidge of energy and power was absorbed from the impact. Cole’s body was like an amplifier, doubling the strength of the blow before sending it back out, right at the point of impact.
There was a dull crack as Azrael’s right knee was shattered. There was no cry of pain, but Azrael’ was or rather is a creature or instinct. And his first instincts in this situation is to make a run for it. Cole has been studying him, the mannerisms and thoughts of an assassin were deeply ingrained into him, and that was something that can be used against him.
Cole grabbed the ankle of his left leg just as soon as his knee was shattered. Shadows danced around, attempting to pull Azrael away. But for the first time Cole didn’t care or worry that Azrael had more mastery and control over shadows than him. He fought for control, and while he was not able to wrest it away, he was able to stop Azrael from teleporting away as he pulled back roughly, dragging the assassin right back down to the ground.
Cole followed up, even with all the pain in his body he utilized explosive power to move himself over Azrael’s body even before it hit the ground as he smashed his elbow into Azrael’s jaw. A knife came slashing for his neck, but Cole quickly poked a finger into Azrael’s eye, eliciting a cry of annoyance as he rolled away from the body summoned his gun into his hands and fired it Azrael, point blank in the head.
*Bang! Bang!*
They both made impact, a blaze of fiery and gust of icy projectiles stabbing into his body. The body though faded into a shadow sludge as Cole laid back on his back, unable to move and severely drained. His body was using everything it had to fight back the poison that was still rampaging in his body.
“why won’t you die?” Cole heard Azrael’s question as he chuckled and didn’t even say anything. He was much too tired and he was trying to focus on a counter attack in case Azrael’ came back to attack.
“I asked you a question!” Cole’s eyes widened in shock as Azrael appeared in front of him, grabbed him by the neck and dragged him closer. His eye were red with rage and wrath, but beyond that was confusion. This was the most emotion Cole has ever seen from this individual yet, somehow the man was confused about what to do with it.
Cole didn’t answer that question, he couldn’t It was taking all of his concentration to be ready for a counter attack as everything else was focused on keeping him alive from the incredibly potent poison Azrael had coated his blade with when he stabbed him.
“Why!”
This time a punch followed the question, Cole’s head was rocked back, as he went with the inertia, drinking in the kinetic energy and concentrating them on his forehead before bringing it forwards to smash into Azrael’s face.
The assassin was blasted backwards, his body smashing through a street light before digging a massive dent into a ruined parked car. The sound attracted the zombies, but they all turned in that direction then after a few seconds turned to look at Cole who seemed to be the only one here, at least to them. If Cole needed any more proof that somehow Azrael had a skill that made him. Invisible and unseen to anyone but who he wishes, then this was that proof.
But even if the zombies could only see Cole, Azrael’ and given the look of fury on his face, this this the real one and not some sort of shadow clone. Would definitely not let the zombies finish the job for him, something about Cole was pissing him off, and for the life of him Cole could not figure out what it was…..or maybe he could.
“WHY! WONT! YOU! JUST! DIEEE!”
A punch rocked Cole from the left, enough from him to realize there was another coming from the left. He couldn’t react, he was so focused on his counter attack that when Azrael actually did attack, he had been caught unawares.
Cole ducked his head as Azrael’s form blitzed past, a trail of after images and shadows following after him. Azrael appeared in front of Cole and pointed his dagger at him as he said.
“Darkness: Dance Of A Thousand Shadows”
And then he was everywhere, not a shadow Clone, but teleportation at such extreme speeds it seemed like he had cloned himself into a thousand people. And then they or rather he, all of him, attacked.
There was no skill to it, just hit after hit after hit. An endless rain of them. Cole’s concentration was shot, and because of how impactful and dangerous the hits became, even Lyren was beaten into a dormant state as the armor vanished into Cole’s body, and his face and body became the target.
“Why won’t you just die, why won’t you die!”
It was the same question, over and over again as those fists fell on him. Every impact came with the question, pain and punishment, so much so that Cole even started asking himself the question, having been beaten and having the same question thrown back at him over and over again.
“Why won’t I die?”
