A cloud of dust rose from bodies crashing into nearby buildings obscured a regular person’s vision but for the two people giving each other death stares, they could clearly see each other.
On one end stood a masked man with a hood covering the top of his head. He was dressed in maroon from head to toe with a double-bladed weapon in his hand. His body was shrouded in dark seraphic energy that expressed his intentions clearly but instead of being intimidated, Rui Fei was itching to put this man in his place.
A cold breeze blew by sweeping the dust away as Rui Fei grinned maliciously with his eyes glinting a red colour. He hadn’t faced such a powerful opponent in a very long time and needed a good workout. But before these two could showcase their prowess they were interrupted by strong seraphic energy heading in their direction.
Both of them froze for a second giving each other one more menacing look before vanishing into the night. The assassin’s reason for disappearing wasn’t known but as for Rui Fei, he had a very good reason to.
He knew the head of the concord was Ji Wen and if he found out that he killed people in Xiehe then it would be difficult for him to board Red Bane peacefully. His benefactor who he had recently found out was a man was aboard that ship and if he offends Ji Wen then he might not get to meet his saviour.
Suppressing his seraphic energy he tracked his siblings. As soon as he vanished the members of the concord arrived at the scene of the crime like teachers ready to catch some students smoking under the bleachers.
To their relief the suppressive seraphic energy had disappeared otherwise it would have been hard to pretend to be brave in front of such a powerful adversary.
“Ha! It seems he ran away when he felt my presence. Coward!” said Zhang Li whilst vigilantly looking around in case of a sneak attack.
Lady Ching Sei walked over to the ruined part of the building with her sword drawn. She crouched down and placed her palm flat on the ground closing her eyes as though listening for something.
Two minutes later she opened her eyes feeling somewhat vexed. With her brows furrowed she looked back to Ji Wen as she sheathed her sword and said, “Whoever it was they are already long gone.”
Ji Wen was about to respond when the sound of bricks and a door being forcibly pushed open drew their attention. Suddenly a powerful streak of wind as sharp as a blade whooshed past them and straightforwardly sliced the building in half barely missing the person who had just opened the door.
Everyone, “….”
Zhang Li had overreacted thinking it was the person from earlier and fired without warning. This caused everyone’s gazes to turn to him with looks of disapproval especially because the person he had almost sliced in half was his son.
“Wuwuwu….. Father are you actually planning to murder your own son in cold blood,” cried a distraught Zhang Ci who looked like he had just had a fight with racoons and lost.
Zhang Li, “…..”
“Will you stop crying. You are embarrassing me,” replied Zhang Li with the last part said in a whisper. He had already embarrassed himself enough and now his son had to go on and announcing his mistake to the world. He harshly draped his arm around Zhang Ci and dragged him along as he bid the rest farewell.
“I will take him home now… he is a little hysterical haha,” said Zhang Li before whispering to his son once more, “behave or I won’t let you see Ji Yao again.”
If only Ji Wen knew what these two were whispering to each other he wouldn’t have let them go without a thorough beating. Concerned for his son he searched for that familiar seraphic energy and once he found it he leapt up to the sky to find him.
Meanwhile, Rui Fei entered the cottage his siblings had secured only to find a tall man lying on the ground unconscious. Rui Yewan was casually sitting on a chair like this had nothing to do with him while Rui Li was sitting cross-legged on the floor poking the unconscious man’s cheek.
He didn’t want to ask what happened but unfortunately, as the oldest, he was compelled to ask. He pointed at the man and without uttering a single word, Rui Yewan confessed or to be exact, he tattled.
“We thought the house was empty so we snuck in and got caught. He refused to let us stay and she couldn’t take no for an answer so that happened,” explained Rui Yewan without going into detail.
Rui Li looked up only to be met by Rui Fei’s disapproving gaze. “What? It was only for two hours at most so why did he have to be stingy? It’s not like we are a bunch of bandits or something,” she explained with an innocent look on her face.
No one had ever refused to give them shelter before which was a little difficult for her to accept. Rui Fei didn’t feel like dealing with this right now as a lot of thoughts were running a marathon in his mind. He slumped into a nearby chair itching to go look for that person.
He could sense their seraphic energy which hadn’t happened in years. Since he had been obsessed with finding this person for such a long time it was hard to contain the desire to go find them and reach the finishing line. Maybe then his obsession would fade away and he could now focus on other things.
Rui Li could clearly sense his restlessness so she said, “Fei-ge, don’t you want us to go and meet our benefactor now that you know where they are?”
“Now that you know she is a he you still want to go look for him? Is it because our little Li has fallen in love with our benefactor?” asked Rui Yewan in a mocking tone. He honestly thought his older brother had fallen for their backer but now that the sex of the person had changed chances of that being the truth had drastically dropped. But that also opened doors for his little sister who was going through her boy craze phase.
“No, but I am curious what he looks like as a boy. He must be so handsome,” she said with a dreamy expression that had Rui Yewan rolling his eyes.
“Have you ever thought the reason why he wore that veil today and how half his face was covered that day means he is ugly from the nose down and it has gotten worse over time? Food for thought,” said Rui Yewan having a field day teasing his sister.
