Rui Fei was in a very terrible mood and when he is like this his siblings know too well to proceed with caution or suffer the wrath of the demon lord.
Rui Yewan really didn’t see the need for him to help Rui Fei because his brother could take care of himself but under the urging of Ji Wen, he had to check up on him. To be honest, he was suspecting that Ji Wen didn’t want him to check on Rui Fei out of concern but for pure gossip.
Even he had to admit he was a little curious as to what could have possibly happened to Rui Fei for him to end up like this. In the past two years, no one had the opportunity to touch a single strand of his older brother’s hair in a fight.
In fact, Rui Fei didn’t even need to put in much effort in confrontations but today he came back looking like he had been caught up in a stampede at a black Friday sale.
After gathering his courage he sighed before sliding the door open. As expected Rui Fei didn’t need his help. He was standing in front of a bronze mirror shirtless with his gaze on his back inspecting his wounds.
Rui Fei heard Rui Yewan enter the room but he didn’t turn to look at him. His gaze might have been fixed on the wounds on his body but his mind was thinking of that barrier that prevented him from entering the cave.
Based on what others said about this cave the worst he could expect was getting drawn into an illusion or dreamscape if he entered inside. At least that’s what Ji Wen’s people said but no one mentioned a tough barrier powerful enough to catapult him into a vile plant.
It couldn’t be only him that had experienced this, right? The fact that he couldn’t get a grasp on this situation ignited his teenage-like curiosity that he suddenly had the urge to conduct an experiment. He finally turned to Rui Yewan who was standing behind him motionless and said, “You know you shouldn’t be fighting in captain Ji’s home, right?”
Rui Fei asked this as he grabbed a bottle of medicine from Rui Yewan’s hand. The Nocru were a powerful race and wouldn’t suffer immensely from small injuries like these.
Without any medication, Rui Fei could slowly heal in the next couple of hours but because he wasn’t certain when Ji Yao would come out of that cave he decided to heal faster and not let him see that.
“I know but she picked a fight with me and you know I can’t yield to anyone regardless of gender,” replied Rui Yewan as he eyed that torn robe, “I take it things didn’t go so well.”
Rui Fei replied, “Mn,” as he applied the medicine. He had already smoothed out his hair and cleaned his face but he still felt a subtle burn around his eyes. He picked up another clean robe and said, “Follow me, I want to check something.”
Rui Yewan’s brow creased but he didn’t say anything as he followed the fully dressed Rui Fei. The two of them walked out in strides piquing Rui Li’s interest. She also wanted to know what sort of mishap Rui Fei fell into but she couldn’t directly ask this otherwise it would only enrage the bull.
She tried to get Rui Yewan’s attention but no matter how hard she winked and whistled he didn’t spare her a glance. He was deliberately ignoring her so she decided to stay put and beat the gossip out of him later.
Just as she resigned to this Rui Fei suddenly stopped and said, “Li-er, come as well,” before walking away. As to why he brought her along it’s because an experiment requires more test subjects to prove the hypothesis.
Rui Li excitedly jumped before trotting over but a disgruntled Xiaoyu stopped her. “Li-er, I thought you promised to help me with this but now you are leaving?” she voiced her complaint feeling a little dissatisfied.
There were women and children on the island who were family members of the crew but Xiaoyu couldn’t fit in with them. In their eyes, she was the young master’s future wife so they couldn’t chat with her casually.
This meant whatever little time she spent on this island for the past two years she didn’t develop any sort of friendship with them. When they were at sea she couldn’t click with these boorish men but she didn’t feel wronged because she could see Ji Yao every day.
But ever since Rui Li joined them she felt like she finally had someone to talk to. Though Rui Li was young she was extremely entertaining and a little mature for her age. The only problem was that she had a big brother complex and wouldn’t mind deserting her for her older brothers.
“You can come with us. I think dage is up to something,” she said inviting the uninvited to their expedition.
Rui Yewan blocked Rui Li’s path with his body and said, “What if we are going to the bathroom and you are just tugging along and inviting unauthorized personnel?”
“If you were then Dage wouldn’t invite me asshole…. get out of my way… tsk Dage, he is bullying me,” complain Rui Li pushing him away. But because she didn’t engage her aether she couldn’t move this boulder.
Rui Fei eyed them from his peripheral view and said, “if you keep fighting then none of you can come,” in an imperative tone that had the two people behaving.
Rui Li fixed her pigtails and smirked as she rushed over to jump on Rui Fei’s back for a piggyback ride. “Land ahoy dage….. let’s move forward,” she said with a silly grin on her face. This was one of the rarest times she could act her age and Rui Fei tolerated it half the time.
Rui Fei didn’t complain carrying her all the way to the deep caves.. The cuts on his back weren’t unbearable so he didn’t mind carrying her.
