Young Master in the Apocalypse Novel

Chapter 43 - Partner

Dozens of undead could be seen crowding the street in front of Viktor, and it didn’t take them long to notice the presence of a lone human. Immediately after, the group of zombies frantically charged and demolished everything in their path, filling the area with growls and slightly muffled sounds of concrete crumbling beneath their feet.

Viktor watched as ten fast red zombies led the horde at the forefront. The giant black zombie followed just behind them, and a tad behind it, at the back of the horde were another dozens of stage one zombies.

Even though he understood that hide was no longer an option, Viktor would not just charge in and attack them head-on. That would basically be courting death. His mind spun as it tried to think of a solution.

With no effective option resulting from his brief brainstorming session, Viktor decided to run for now, creating more distance between the fast red zombies and the slower black one behind them.

He continued to run, and without him realizing, he was already at the other end of the town. Knowing that the distance between the undead should have widened, he then used his newfound strength and agility to jump onto the roof of a nearby two-story house.

As soon as both of his feet landed, Viktor swiftly turned toward the horde of zombies chasing after him and brandished his dagger.

At that moment, one of the closest red undead quickly jumped toward him.

Splat!

Viktor swiftly swung his dagger and separated the undead’s head off of its neck before it could lay its feet on the roof. The cut he made was so clean that not a single drop of blood got on his clothes.

Following the first red undead’s fall, two more came and pincered Viktor from two different directions. Without delay, he kicked one of them down and pierced the other one on its head.-.

The 27 points of strength made his kick so strong that Viktor could clearly hear the crisp sound of bones breaking from the undead. Not only that, but his body did not even stagger despite the substantial rebound.

Viktor didn’t have the luxury of savoring his newfound power though, as the undead hordes a few meters away were still thirsting for him. As soon as another one managed to get on the roof, he jumped to another roof and repeated his sequence of attacks.

With this modified tactic of hit-and-run, the red undead’s fast and erratic movements became more predictable, and thanks to that, Viktor managed to deal with them more easily than he thought.

At this moment, Viktor couldn’t help but feel like a character in one of those superhero movies, jumping from one roof to another and killing those pursuing him one by one.

He continued to do this somewhat rhythmical set of actions, dispatching undead left and right without mercy. Until suddenly, a disaster struck – the roof of the house his feet landed onto broke apart.

Without proper footing, Viktor swiftly fell flat on the floor of the broken dilapidated house. Some dust from the fallen rubble got into his eyes, but he could still see the black zombie nearby, almost standing on top of him.

It was at this moment that Viktor realized what happened. The undead had crushed the roof from below.

With his current reclining position, his back against the ground, it was nearly impossible for him to run, so when the monstrous zombie raised its massive hands and was about to crush him, he took out the desert eagle and began shooting.

Bam! Bam! Bam!

The first shot missed due to the previously fallen dust, but the second one successfully hit its neck while the last one hit it right in the eye. Unfortunately, because the shot did not go straight to the brain, the result Viktor received was the zombie shrieking loudly full of rage before it started wildly smashing everything around it without care.

Naturally, Viktor did not remain still. That was his cue to quickly get back on his feet and rush out of the house. When he broke down the door that was barely standing, he was caught off guard by the figure waiting behind it that he almost fired the desert eagle out of reflex.

“Woof woof!”

“Djinn!” Viktor breathed out a sigh. “Seriously, why are you not helping!?”

Interrupting their reunion, a red zombie suddenly came charging at him. Before he could move to kick it away, the blue Siberian husky already moved a beat faster and charged at it.

Bamm!!

Viktor watched in surprise as the Djinn dealt with the zombie. Despite the latter being about four times its size, the dog was able to tackle it without much effort. The next second, the husky bit the red zombie and pulled apart its head.

“That’s what I’m talking about! Good dog!” Viktor said cheerfully, inwardly raising two thumbs.

A few more red zombies came charging at them right after, but with the two of them working together as a team, they easily took care of the incoming undead.

One man, one dog hand in hand.

The two continue fighting toward the incoming horde of stage one zombies.

Before the rest of the stage one zombies were dealt with, the black one finally broke out of the house ruins. It once again charged at Viktor, this time with twice the rage.

Viktor dashed in, and with his improved strength, he was able to make a cut at the monster’s knee and cause it to heavily fall to the ground.

The monster’s heavy fall caused the dust and dirt around to fly a little, but it did not hinder Viktor too much. He carefully looked for the right timing, and when it finally came, he stabbed the back of the black zombie’s head.

Splatt!!

[You have received the spirit energy of a stage three undead – level 25.]

[You have received 1 point in endurance.]

Now that the biggest threat had been rid of, Viktor went out and killed the rest of the stage one zombies. At this point, these stage one zombies would not pose a threat to Viktor unless they came in hundreds and surrounded him in all directions.

After a while, the town finally became clear of zombies.

When he was sure that there were no more of them, Viktor checked his fruits of labor.

The whole fight against almost 50 zombies with two stage 3 zombies only gave him a total of two points of endurance and two points of spirit force.

“Such a chore, yet only minimum salary!” Viktor grumbled.

“Woof woof!”

The Djinn reminded Viktor of how he dropped the Persian lamp during the fall inside the broken house.

“Sh*t.”

He knew how important that lamp was. Without wasting a second, he rushed to look for it. Luckily, it did not take him long at all to find it.

“Seriously, do you have any better way to keep this thing? I can’t keep putting it on my waist!”

Annoyingly, the lamp could not be put inside the alien ring, causing Viktor to constantly have to make sure it was still there while fighting.

‘I need to chain it or something,’ Viktor thought as he put the Persian lamp back on his waist.

Now that all was done, it was time for him to start doing what he came to do; extracting metal for his new skill.

However, just when he was about to start, he heard multiple howls near the town.

“Darn it…”

The sounds must have attracted them here!

He had just finished fighting against over 50 zombies. Although it was not an extremely painful battle, it was tiring.

Viktor rushed in to extract the metals.

There was no way he was going to fight a pack of mutated wolves now.
