I Became the Best Forensic Doctor After My Betrayal Novel

Chapter 9

Report

Li Zi looked on, stunned. She kept shaking her head. “Now I know why you’ve become so lazy. Your son has spoiled you.”

“No, Aunt Li Zi. Mom works hard every day. I’m just doing my best to help lessen her workload.” Shen Nian tiptoed to take breakfast for three out of the microwave, which he had already warmed.

Li Zi shook her head again and sighed. “If only I had a son like Nian Nian.”

“You can acknowledge Nian Nian as your godson,” Shen Yin interrupted as she wiped her face.

“Sure! Nian Nian, are you willing?” Li Zi’s eyes lit up in anticipation. She did not want to take away someone’s love. She was just too envious of Shen Yin!

“Sure. Godmother is Mom’s best friend. Of course, I will be good to Godmother too.” Shen Nian nodded happily. He would agree to anything his mother suggested. Besides, he did not dislike Aunt Li Zi at all.

“Then it’s settled.” Li Zi ate her breakfast excitedly. The more she saw of Shen Nian, the more she liked him.

As Li Zi drove Shen Yin to work, she excitedly discussed what gift she should get for Shen Nian.

“He’s a child. There’s no need to give him anything expensive.” Shen Yin sat in the front passenger seat, listening to Shen Nian’s childish voice over the phone. She was as happy as a child with a jar of honey.

“That won’t do.” Li Zi looked at Shen Yin solemnly as the latter got out of the car. “Help me think about it. I have to give Nian Nian a big gift.”

“Alright, got it.” Amused, Shen Yin bade her friend farewell and turned to enter the police station with a serious expression.

By now, word had spread through the station that a new chief forensic pathologist was joining the department that day. It was said that Zou Sheng of Team Three had risked a harsh scolding from their boss to spend the night hacking into the police department system to investigate the newcomer’s files.

Only then did they realize that the new forensic pathologist was a beauty.

As soon as this news got out, it spread through the police station like a virus.

The detectives, who were a bunch of rough men, suddenly became restless. Since early that morning, they had all been looking forward to seeing this mythical, beautiful forensic pathologist.

Shen Yin reported to the Chief’s office first and collected her work ID. Only then did she find out which team she had been assigned to. She grabbed a passing police officer and asked, “Hello, comrade. How do I get to the forensic pathologist’s office?”

“Forensic pathologist?” The young policeman had been the first to hear the news from Zou Sheng. Now this tall, beautiful lady with an exquisite face was asking him for directions. He immediately led the way in delight. “Elder Sister, are you the new forensic pathologist? It seems that the Chief is the nicest to our team! He assigned us such a beautiful forensic pathologist!”

Shen Yin smiled and asked, “What’s your name?”

The young policeman scratched his head in embarrassment. “My name is Meng Heng. I graduated from the police academy this year.”

“Young and promising,” Shen Yin said lightly as entered the forensic pathologist’s office.

Meng Heng politely pushed the door open for her. The forensic pathologists in the office immediately looked at the door in a daze.

“Excuse me, who are you?” The lead male forensic pathologist asked, as he set down the papers he was holding, and looked up.

Shen Yin glanced at the people in front of her. The oldest of the forensic doctors looked to be in his thirties. “Hello, I’m the new chief forensic pathologist. My name is Shen Yin.”

“You—you’re the chief forensic pathologist?” The man took off his glasses and stepped forward in disbelief. “You’re too young!”

The young girl behind him timidly tugged at his white coat and reminded him kindly, “Brother Wang, you should address her as ‘Boss’.”

“Oh, right!” The man wiped his hands nervously before extending his hand and saying politely, “My name is Wang Sheng, the deputy chief forensic pathologist. Can you let us see your work ID?”

“Of course.” Shen Yin took out her ID and hung it on her chest. She shook his hand politely. “Hello, I hope you will take care of me in the future.”

When the young lady saw the forensic ID, she quickly advanced admiringly. “Boss! Hello, my name is Zheng Ling!”

Shen Yin returned the smile with equal courtesy, then turned her attention to the last person in the room.

When the man saw Shen Yin looking at him, he stepped forward awkwardly and rubbed his palm against his white coat. Then, he slowly extended his hand. “Hello, Boss. My name is Han Xu.”

Zheng Ling patted his shoulder energetically and said to Shen Yin with a smile, “Don’t judge a book by the cover. He’s one of the best in the profession. He was the top student from the entire forensic science department this year and joined our branch!”
