No one could blame Xu Binchen though. Even though their police bureau wasn’t open to the public, it still couldn’t escape nepotism. Sometimes, the higher ups would bring their relatives such as their daughter, nephew or granddaughter to visit, just to flaunt their presence like a male peacock. Their purpose: to search for potential husbands.
In short, their police department—especially the SCI unit—didn’t lack visitors from all ages and backgrounds.
Moreover, their squad was deemed as ‘The Flower Unit’ because there were Xu Binchen and Jin Renguang there. The former was an outstanding graduate of the Police Academy who had high index in looks, wealth and power, while the latter was the Captain who formed SCI and was seen as a legend back in the day. Even though Jin Renguang looked kind of imposing and scary, but truthfully he was a marshmallow in real life when he wasn’t solving cases.
The number of ladies that came to steal glances over the years couldn’t even be counted with the dandruff sticking on Tang Wei’s hair.
Alas, finally retribution came over Xu Binchen.
As soon as Ru Meiqi’s words fell, heavy silence descended upon the entire floor. Whether it was the officers who wanted to ask for data, the ones who came to report, or even the ones who were just passing by, they all froze in place.
But one thing they’d forgotten. Xu Binchen’s face was as thick as the Great Wall in China, not even a crack could be seen.
Knowing that he was in the wrong, Xu Binchen nodded and bowed his head slightly. “So it’s like that. I am very sorry to offend Senior Ru. It’s a great honor to finally meet you, I am Xu Binchen.” He shook her hand and let it go not even a second after, his expression unchanging but his tone was sincere.
A snort escaped Ru Meiqi’s nose. “Not bad.” She murmured and soon, the freezing atmosphere thawed.
Tang Wei laughed dryly and said, “Then I will go and make you all some coffees!”
The flock of crowds dispersed and the people continued to do their jobs. Xu Binchen looked at Ru Meiqi who only reached his shoulder and asked, “Senior Ru visited the hospital?”
“You’ve got quick network there.” She had only stepped into the police department and he had already checked her identity out. “Yes, I am.”
Creases formed on Xu Binchen’s forehead. “May I ask what business you have with her?”
“Nothing.” Ru Meiqi’s eyes wandered around. “Just want to look at her.”
He instinctively knew that the woman didn’t intend to divulge anything and nodded, which added to Ru Meiqi’s favorability points.
To be honest, Xu Binchen couldn’t be said to be arrogant. He was only a bit too straightforward and dull in EQ, often offending people without knowing, rigid and stiff, as well as brilliant and handsome.
Indifference was his inherent nature.
It was like when a King descended down his throne and walked around the poor village, even if he wanted to disguise himself wearing rag clothes, he couldn’t truly become like pheasants. Thus he stood up like a sore thumb.
But this striking contrast just added to his charm which made countless women swoon.
Alas, the people who could match with the kind like Xu Binchen were people who were kind in nature, silly to the point of foolishness, straightforward and didn’t fear death. Only by then could they dig out this bastard’s conscience.
Ru Meiqi clearly knew that. That’s why, in their first encounter, she acted like a strict superior and Xu Binchen’s reaction didn’t disappoint her in the slightest.
“Where’s Jin Renguang’s office?”
Xu Binchen pointed at the closed door to his left with a deadpan face, didn’t feel guilty even a bit for selling out his captain.
Ru Meiqi nodded and sauntered in, closing the door behind her. Tang Wei hurried over, carrying a tray with four cups of coffee which Xu Binchen grabbed one at ease. “Where’s my goddess Ru?” The man whispered, his glasses fogging up from excitement.
Xu Binchen jutted his chin toward Jin Renguang’s office.
Tang Wei looked horrified. “You let her into Captain’s office?! Do you want him to hack you to death?” Their Captain had a problem with cleanliness and OCD, he didn’t like other people in his space, nor could he bear people touching his things. That’s why, no one dared to get close to Jin Renguang’s personal office.
“It’s okay—”
Xu Binchen hadn’t finished yet when Jin Renguang came out from the elevator, sweating profusely. “Has the criminal psychologist arrived?!”
Tang Wei hemmed and hawed, his face pale considerably while Xu Binchen didn’t have any qualms in pointing at where Ru Meiqi was.
Jin Renguang muttered out a thanks and strode forward with large steps. The door opened and closed, shielding him from curious gazes.
“—he will not mind,” Xu Binchen finished his sentence.
“Why do you say so?”
It was obvious that the two of them knew each other. But Xu Binchen was too lazy to explain thus he only patted Tang Wei’s shoulder and spat out one word, “Intelligence.” After that, he grabbed his car key and walked away.
Tang Wei: “…” Now he had a faint idea why Xu Binchen was still single with his superb qualification.
