With a low grunt, Su Yan removed the sturdy stairwell door out of its hinges in one swift motion and placed it down casually as if it was made of just cardboard material.
Thud. A small sound echoed which made everyone clutch their weapons tightly.
The bunch of them then quickly made their way up the stairs while Qin Hua was puzzled as to why the Level 15 zombie hadn’t locked onto them yet.
She had fully expected it to jump down and attack them. In fact, she had counted on it to gain faster experience points but it looked like it had run away somewhere else and the stairwell was empty.
Woof! Qin Hua barked and dashed forward to the next floor to get her first dibs on the zombies. The door was already unhinged and laid on the ground, so she easily entered through.
The others as well picked up their pace and quickly followed behind her, but it looked like they were too late. Except for the two Level 1 zombie stragglers, there was nothing else on the entire floor.
Half of the apartments were empty and the other half had its inhabitants half-eaten or smashed to the ground into a paste.
Su Yan encouraged the three people without any abilities to finish the two Level 1 zombies and this time Alex and even Xu Meilin’s movements were much smoother.
The two women quickly finished off one zombie each, while Nan Zhong squinted his eyes looking at them.
“Ok. Let’s move on to the next floor now.” Su Yan frowned seeing the middle-aged man’s obvious behavior but he didn’t waste any time lecturing him again.
Qin Hua shot forward as soon as she heard the command and quickly jumped over the stairs reaching the next floor.
Compared to Alex and Xu Meilin, she was adapting much faster to this new world full of blood and gore even though she was a woman herself, well at least on the inside.
Just like the 8th floor, the 9th floor of the apartment complex also had the stairwell door already broken down and it looked pretty much deserted.
There were a total of 20 floors in the apartment complex and so the group had no other choice but to patiently check out each of the floors one after the other.
“Hmm… Guys. Can we stop for a minute? I am kind of hungry and tired?” Alex sighed and flopped onto the ground after they reached the 13th floor.
There were not many zombies left on the upper floors and since they had been constantly moving around and fighting, it had become extremely tiresome. They also hadn’t come across any survivors so this seemed pointless.
Su Yan looked around to see that the three without any abilities seemed more tired than the both of them, especially Nan Zhong was drenched in sweat from climbing the several flights of stairs.
He paused for a minute and then suggested. “Why don’t you guys stay in this apartment for a few minutes and rest and eat something?”
“Also salvage some food and supplies for our use, maybe in backpacks. In the meantime, I and Lu Chen will go check out the remaining floors quickly and meet you guys on the way back down.”
“Once we can secure the entire apartment and block all the entrances and exits, we can rest a little and decide what to do next.”
The three were too tired to oppose this idea and immediately nodded their heads, agreeing to the suggestion.
“Little white! You be a good girl and stay with these three safely. Alright?” Su Yan patted the dog and the duo quickly dashed upstairs.
And instantly, Qin Hua who was up until now acting like a docile obedient dog had stars twinkling in her eyes. She was exactly waiting for such an opportunity!
While the three collapsed on the floor, huffing, and puffing, she quietly took a couple of steps back and disappeared into the shadow lingering nearby.
[Let’s see who hunts the fastest! Woof!] She ran upwards following Lu Chen and Su Yan and directly headed to the next floor leaving the one the two guys were on right now.
<Ding. Blending into Darkness Skill had increased to Level 3>
[Sweet! Let’s go!] The dog excitedly weaved in and out of the shadows and peeked through the various apartments.
However, as she crossed every single apartment, the excitement faded from her wolf-like angular elegant face.
There was not even a single survivor left and only bodies were littered everywhere. A putrid stench assaulted her nose and her strong sense of smell was not helping the situation.
After running around for a while, she finally came across two Level 2 zombies which were stuck behind a sort of barricade that someone had set up with a huge table and a shelf and the wall.
[Fu Fu Fu! Ripe for picking! ] Qin Hua licked her lips and quickly dived under the table. She started biting the two zombies alternating and took out huge chunks of their flesh, finally killing them off in a one-sided massacre.
They weren’t even able to land a single hit on her thanks to the make-shift barricade.

Qin Hua then quickly dug out the mana cores from the mess of flesh and bones and ate them up, before running to the next floor.

<Ding. Agility +1>
<Ding. Agility has reached the threshold and has been upgraded to Lesser Agility>
<Ding. You have learned a new skill Dash>
Qin Hua felt a zap of energy pass through her body and she suddenly felt her feet carrying her faster than before. She grinned wildly at this new discovery and continued running upstairs.
Her grind was now much faster with the dash ability and she jumped around more frantically.
15th floor, 16th floor, 17th floor… Qin Hua searched through the mess and found nothing at all and finally, when she came to the 18th floor, she saw an apartment with its door still intact.
She cautiously peeked from under the door and entered the apartment, only to immediately halt her paws.
Two children were sitting on the couch in front of her and their eyes were closed, their eyeballs rapidly flickering behind their eyelids.
